The right wing fundies at the NBC station
here in East Texas run some stupid xmas pageant.

I am not Catholic but I like the watch the midnight Mass in St. Peter's Basilica so I can appreciate all the fabulous artwork by Bernini. He also designed the altar.

Damn fundies! The Catholics commissioned all the good religious music and art (Bernini, Michelangelo, Mozart) etc.

:banghead:

1. we have watched that for years -just for the beauty of
the Cathedral and the pageantry. We used to wrap presents while watching it before we had cable. Reminded me of less fancy midnight masses I attended as a kid.

You can probably watch it online somewhere, eh?

2. Magnificent building
Hi,
I was lucky enough to visit St. Peter's and the Vatican when I was much younger. The scale of St. Peter's is absolutely amazing, hard to grasp it on tv, those pillars are huge. Almost overwhelming to see in person. Such a magnificent building. Not sure what the tours are like these days with all the fear of terror, but when I went it was pretty awesome. I too try to watch some it every Christmas Eve.

Peace

3. They ran it later than I expected, so I did get to see it.
My dad was in the Army Air Corps (the Air Force) in WWII. He told me how amazing St Peter's is.

He went to St. Peter's with a navigator buddy who had a box camera on his arm with a coat draped over it. They took pictures.

Went back the second day, got the bum's rush from the Swiss Guards.
They got kicked out for taking pictures.

So I told Dad, "You're the only person I know who can't say 'I've been thrown out of classier places than this!'"

Crazy man.
