Pope Meets Coventry Cat. Pope is Impressed. Cat Isn't.

Pushkin, a 10-year old Persian mix in residence at a church in Coventry, England, was introduced to the Pope on the occasion of the latter's visit in October this year. The Pope, who is a cat lover, was impressed with Pushkin, stroking his head and commenting, "My, aren't you pretty!" Photographs of the encounter show that Pushkin was not impressed with the Pope.



Of course, the Pope does not make a practice of scratching the heads of his visitors. If he did, perhaps he would not have been surprised at Pushkin's reaction.



A contemplative Pushkin recalls his audience with the Pope:
I never even met the guy and he starts sweet-talking me!!

But Ashes is usually a pretty friendly cat, he might have been happier to meet the Pope---it's all about getting attention to him.
