Kitchen appliances.
Mine are over 20 years old and I want stainless steel,,,,,but with the child support payments, it really shouldn't happen.

Anyway with experience with the 'silver mist' look?

The diff in price is $600.

I'm ready to buy the 'silver mist'. :-)

Not familiar with "silver mist" but for $600, I'd go for it!

Good luck!

btw, I only clean if someone pays me to!

4. Stainless is a pain in the butt to clean
I have been told by several people they regret spending the extra money for something that shows every finger print and smug. Save a bundle go with simple white.

5. We have a silver-mist refrigerator & it's super easy to keep clean!
Go for it! It blends in well with my other stainless steel appliances. The fridge was a good size & had the features I wanted (in-door water, crushed & cubed ice) & would have cost hundreds more for s/s. I've had it for 3 years now; no regrets.

6. I have stainless steel appliances
and I hate them. They came with the house and I can't afford to replace them right now. I also hate having a stainless steel sink.

I don't know what all the rage is to have them. They are easy to clean but hard to keep clean. They show everything including pet hair. They are pet hair magnets. If you have a lot of sunlight in your kitchen, you will see every speck of dust on them along with the streaks from cleaning. I spend a lot of time cleaning those things. It's not worth the trouble.

If you touch them, you have to clean them. I have to agree, save your money and buy white appliances and a white textured refrigerator. At least you can go a few days without wiping them down.

If you don't like to clean, don't buy anything silver or black. That old rule about silver doesn't show dirt applies to cars only. :)

22. There's a very good reason why stainless is popular. The "hard to clean" thing is a misnomer.
Stainless is popular in environments where cleanliness is considered important. A smudge on a stainless appliance is no harder to clean than a smudge on a white appliance. The difference is that the white appliance masks the smudge better, so more can be left behind without marring the visual appearance of the appliance. A white appliance can LOOK clean while still being covered with finger oils and the germs they harbor. A stainless appliance requires that you REALLY clean the appliance, but you have more assurance that the appliance is actually clean and sterile when you're done.

If I place my hand on my stainless refrigerator, it leaves oils behind and leaves a visible mark. If I place my hand on a white refrigerator, it leaves the same oils behind, but the white masks the mark and any germs it may contain.

The whole debate really comes down to this: What is more important to you...cleanliness or convenience?

8. BEAUTIFUL
to look at but not to clean. When you have something like that you don't want to dirty it up.

Built to look not to cook. :)

11. I've got stainless - Stove, hood, dishwasher, sink and fridge
Had them for 10 years. Really don't worry about the fingerprints, pet hair etc. Wipe it down, it disappears. But then I'm not super obsessive about the "look" of my kitchen. I'm in it all the time and it's a working kitchen.
White enamel is a nightmare and I had a sealed burner cooktop that was a real horror show to keep clean - spill something and it baked itself onto that porcelain coated steel in about 30 seconds.

14. That's my major problem
I am obsessive about cleaning.

I've only had white appliances before including the stove hood. I never had the need to wipe them constantly and they didn't show pet hair. I have 3 cats, there will be hair.

I cook 2 sometimes 3 times a day. I find myself wiping down the microwave, stove, dishwasher, refrigerator multiple times a day. It gets old.

What I wouldn't give to have my white porcelain sink, white gas stove and my big white textured refrigerator back.

When I do replace all mine, I'm getting white.

15. I've got two cats - and the hair doesn't adhere to the stainless
Edited on Mon Dec-27-10 12:08 AM by GoneOffShore
The stove I've got is an open top gas restaurant style range with cast iron burners, grates and basins. It doesn't shine up unless you let the grease build up on it (kidding!).

Having worked in a restaurant kitchen and doing almost all our cooking at home, except when Mrs GoS decides she wants to make soup, wiping down the top of the stove is constant. Nothing else gets wiped unless there's a spill.

The hood interior gets done once a week and the exterior the same. Refrigerator handle once or twice a day, unless I'm baking.

The countertops are more important to keep clean than the exterior of the appliances, IMHO.

17. Sounds like you have a very nice stove.
LOL on the grease.

When I open my dining room curtains I swear I see cat hair on the bottom of my stove. If I have no dirty marks, I use a swiffer. That works.

I share my kitchen with two other people. They don't clean like I do so it seems I'm constantly wiping hand prints off of everything.

I don't have a hood but I wipe under the microwave everytime I cook and clean the fan screens at least once a week.

The countertops are always clean. My cats are not allowed up there.

I guess I need to relax and stop being anal about cleaning.

I still wish I had white appliances. :)

13. You can get "silver mist" with any used restaurant equipment.
As most of that is either brushed stainless or aluminum. It will likely be dented and scratched, but it will be affordable :)

19. Not sure if its the same concept
We have a Samsung "platinum" finish on our fridge, which is basically stainless with some sort of vinyl covering that keeps it from staining the way stainless does. And I love it. It looks like stainless, without the downside. And with less glare when the sun shines on it.

21. There is something called the "color lobby". They get together and plan out
what the fashion colours are going to be for cars and appliances and clothes in the years to come. Then once you buy it you will hate it in ten years when silver mist is out of style. That is why they make things in fashion colors. Go for something white or cream. That way you won't hate it some day....you'll just hate it right away LOL!

I have the Frigidaire professional series stove, fridge, dishwasher - love them. Well dishwasher is still in the box. New kitchen flooring, cabinets and other upgrades should be done by end of Jan.
