Bill collector called
at 8:30 am today. Was a robo call that didn't follow it's own numbers, looking for a Sue Smith. Not me. So, anyway, I end up talking to the guy from India.

Him. Is swe there"
Me, No
HIm. Does she still live there.
Me, No
Him, Can you tell me how to talk to her.
Me, No, I got this number 3 years ago and I get a lot bill collectors calling for her.
Him, Do you have her new number

Time to play.

Me, look, I get all of these calls so I spent some time looking her up. Found out she remarried and changed her number. Now, I have her new name, number and address. I am willing to sell you that information for $50.

Him, One moment please

a minute later

Him, Sorry I can not do that.

Me. Ok, but this is a limited time offer, after the first of the year the price goes up to $100 and it will cost you way more to do the research that I did.

Him. One moment please.

Lots of laughing in the background.

Him. I am sorry, but I will take your number off our list if you give me the information.

Me. No thank you. I'm retired with lots of time on my hands and this is kind of fun for me. I'll just keep raising the price.

Him, Good bye sir.

this is the second time I've done this, it is kind of fun.

1. I Got An Idea for You
Do your thing exactly the way you just did it, and add something like this:

"Hey, I've made this deal with another collector. They sent me the $100. Later, they told me that they collected."

3. I will add that.
Thing is, I do have the info. Took me about 30 minutes with a couple of old phone books looking for the number and name and when it changed.

5. There is (or was) another
person with my name living at the same apartment complex. I always enjoy trying to convince bill collectors that, even though it's the right name and address, it's not me that they are looking for (wish I had Jedi powers). Most are reasonable, but I still crack up when they threaten lawsuits and damaged credit reports.

6. A+ for you. Double A+. My recommendation, is to add "oh, let
me check for that number, I believe I have that number right here, hold one minute please". Then come back to the phone every 3, 4 or 15 minutes to keep them going. You get extra points for every extra 15 minutes. !!
