Why are Brazil nuts?
Edited on Thu Dec-30-10 03:26 PM by Richardo
They have no discernible taste, have the texture of frozen wax, and they're too big. They totally lame-ify any 'assorted nut' tin you might get from oh, say, a vendor around the holidays. If something's gonna be that laden with fat it should at least taste like... something.

No me gusta Brazil nuts. x(

1. Brazil are nuts ...
Edited on Thu Dec-30-10 03:56 PM by dawg
'cause they've got the best looking women in the whole damn world but they spend most of their time chopping down the rain forest!!!!

(Just kidding, Brazilians. Although you do like to, *ahem*, clear-cut things more than I would prefer.)

2. They're the first nuts I eat in the mixed cans because they're so
delicious! :9

Just one will also give you your entire RDA for selenium :)

3. I don't like them either
but not because of their old racist name (hint - really bad, starts with N and ends with toes).

5. Sadly, I was raised calling them that
Not that I used the term since I was grown. I actually looked up Brazil Nut and was like.. sad, sad, sad that I didn't even know the proper name :(

Still sad.

8. Grampa called them that
a lot of old language, while it was certainly demeaning and racist wasn't quite the insult it would be meant as today. Hell the same guy was fighting to integrate the swimming pool at the High School when he was on the School Board in the 40's so there you go...

13. Don't Feel Like The Lone Ranger

Plenty of kids I grew up with in the south referred to Brazil nuts that way, because they never heard any other terminology for them in their homes. I haven't heard the racist term in many, many years, for which I'm thankful.....

6. They take up space that would otherwise have to be filled by delicious cashews, pecans,...
almonds, or peanuts.

Just Mr. Peanut trying to screw us and augment his bottom line.

Rapacious, capitalist pig! I mean, he wears a top hat and a monocle for Christ's sake. You can't be any more of an elitist than that.

12. And cashews and peanuts aren't even NUTS.
Cashews are seeds and peanuts are legumes.
