Laser eye surgery
I dont think this qualifies as asking medical advice, seeing as it is an elective sort of thing and I am not asking for advice as to whether I should do it, But if I am crossing that line, I trust the mods to delete and rebuke as necessary.

But I am curious as to what people's experiences with it have been? Does it actually improve vision? What are the drawbacks?

Is it a common sort of thing for people to have? I remember when I was younger Contacts were kinda hoity toity, and now everyone and their kid has them. Half tongue in cheek, I ask is laser eye surgery mainstream yet, or can one still be a trend setter.

1. I think it is very mainstream
I have seen some really low prices advertised lately. Stiil, it scares me. and I used to wear extended wear contacts - those are not exactly the safest either, but surgery on my eyes gives me the shivers.

signed, same scratched glasses for the last 5 or 6 years - I REALLY want to get contacts again:-(

2. I tried to get contacts
But apparently I have caveman brows and awesome eye-protective blinking skills. I spent over an hour at the optician trying to get them in before they would sell me a box. I got one in, but that other one, we went through 3 aides, and a whole lot of determination on my part before giving up. I was determined, and when I get that stubborn streak up, I rarely fail. I failed at that.

I just switched glasses, I had gotten 2 identical pair last time, one of the 2fer deals. That was 3 years ago, and I just admitted the first pair were thrashed. Ive been told for the last year it was time, but as I say, I can be stubborn, and I hate to be wasteful of things I have. Life is a whole lot clearer for the moment. But It would be awesome to be able to wear sunglasses, without having to spend $300 to have them made, and then fearing they will be scratched up or lost just cause you took them to the beach.

Do it at home.

No way would I do lasik. I would be too worried about the halos and star bursts with night vision. http://www.lasikdisaster.com/

4. Im curious. As always
I wonder who funds that site, and whether the industry claims to have figured out ways to solve that problem have any basis in fact. I always ask who, though. I know who funds the pro-lasik sites. They are pretty blatent. Who funds the anti?

I am also curious to hear from people that I "know" in some context other than a website pro or anti. Thus my post here.

I have always had excellent night vision. But glasses mess that up, generally speaking, so would I really be out if I was one of those who had that side effect?.

7. Ah.
I counter your site with a site

http://eyes-and-vision.com/complications-side-effects-of-laser-eye-surgery.html

Seems more balanced, with an overview of the potential consequences, video of various procedures(for the brave of heart), reviews pro and con.

I think watching the video did more to discourage my interest than the website you posted, though that has provided some food for thought as well.

8. No joke
that sounds like an interesting read, even aside from its potential connection to my OP.
