Update from MFM:
Edited on Tue May-24-11 11:24 PM by MiddleFingerMom
.
.
.
Hi, all!
.
.
First off, all the well-wishes, vibes, love, thoughts, etc have been unbelievably wonderful.
.
.
You have helped me move MUCH easier over some of the more FUCKFUCKFUCK rocky terrain of
the past week. There HAVE been painful moments -- thankfully short, if not sweet... and what
has often gotten me through them is thinking about the folks on this site.
.
.
It's getting better every day. Lifting myself out from a flat supine position on the bed (yes,
the head of the bed can be powered up, but I'm working on the conditions I'll have to face at
home) and coughing are my two worst enemies.
.
.
I have what's called a "hug pillow". About 14" across and heart-shaped (Valentine's... not
anatomically correct). I hug it to my chest TIGHTLY when I cough and it diffuses the movement
of my muscles and bone that are trying to knit together to a wider surface area -- GREATLY
diminishing the pain.
.
I thought I lost it once and was near panic. At this point, it's my Bestest-Friend-For-Fucking-EVER!!!
.
alphafemale is making me a spare. How SWEET is that? I've been telling people at the Rehab
Hospital here about it and they get all "AWWWWW"... but when I tell them what I think is one
of its cooler features they start laughing. It's going to be made of crushed red velvet and
I'm going to forever refer to it as "My Pimp Pillow".
.
"OWWIE-OWWIE-OWWIE-OWWIE-WHOSYERDADDY-OWWIE-OWWIE-OWWIE!!!!"
.
I'm missing some of your MFM allusion posts and pictures (and catching some, too). Please don't
consider that to be personal. I tire easy, I'm on a kinda user-unfriendly system, and the sheer
volume of material is overwhelming in so many ways.
.
I think I'm seeing and appreciating and laughing with MOST of it... but just don't feel on top
of my game enough yet to post on/respond to them all.
.
Again, special thanks to Kali and CaliforniaPeggy for keeping you in touch with me and vice versa.
.
.
I don't want to start listing people that I have appreciated over the last week as I'll forget
one/some/hell... MANY... and I don't want to hurt any of you who have been so nice.
.
.
.
Tomorrow is the big weekly "All-Discipline Meeting" (no, Amerigo -- they don't "take my medical
history" while dressed in black leather catsuits and doing unspeakably wonderful things with hot
melted wax).
.
.
.
.
.
Darn the luck!!!!
.
.
.
.
Everyone involved in my treatment and physical rehab will be involved in a big roundtable meeting
and discuss my progress and my potential release to home. I want to go home... but not so soon
that it'll end up having been TOO soon. I've been healing up pretty well, but still have some really
serious pragmatic daily living issues to work on.
.
.
.
More to come after that meeting -- maybe tomorrow night or Thursday.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The nurses here are REMARKABLY strong and dedicated and have managed (yes, just BARELY... but just
barely is good enough) to keep their hands off me except in a professional manner.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
For the most part.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
After all... NOBODY'S perfect.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Thank GOODNESS!!!!

2. Yep, sounds about right.
I'm glad you're on track, rusty and bumpy as that track is. Isn't it astounding how much we take the little things...like breathing...for granted?

And if you're having trouble keeping up and replying to all the posts,

5. Ah, good to hear this from ya!
Yes, it would be nice to go home but those all-important ADL's (Activities of Daily Living) can really be stressors. When I was in a rehab hospital one of the therapists told me that simple showers are one of the most taxing things for people to deal with, coming out of heart surgery, or lots of things, really. People who haven't been through an intense physical or cardiac rehab may not understand how hard it is to do the most seemingly simple things.

You'll get there, no doubt. Take care!

9. Is there an internet café at the Rehab hospital? I'm glad you have access!
I know DU has been a great virtual place of refuge and camaraderie for my husband and me since not long after the great downer of the 2000 selection. DU was especially good to be a part of when he had cancer surgery and chemotherapy four+ years ago, and the reparté here provided a good form of educational and entertaining distraction for him, (and me when I could get on the computer !)

Amerigo and HopeHoops got us going on the MFM thread and it was therapeutic for us because when one of us is in the hospital we worry, and we got a little giddy and nutty but we had to make up for the serious depletion of humor with you away getting your valve job.

Now DU is almost back to normal.......;;;;;;;;;;;;;)

12. Internet cafe?
.
.
.
This is a desktop set up in the front lobby -- ostensibly for job applicants (as their HR doesn't accept paper apps any
more), but also for general use. It's got some MS programs (including Word), but has some serious user-UNfriendly
restrictions (including no access to MS Paint -- which makes my usual picture-mining EXTREMELY difficult). On a few
occasions, I've spent up to an hour trying to figure out how to save and edit a picture, only to have the system reboot
entirely (and it purges ALL saved material in a reboot).
.
ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!
.
.
But it IS access -- I'm not a phone guy, even with those close to me, so it's immensely helpful and convenient... and
an ENORMOUS morale/spirit booster.
.
.
Almost nobody else uses it (once again, I might be the youngest person in the joint) and they don't put any restrictions
on my hours of access -- other than my therapy schedules. The staff is REALLY nice and know by now that if I'm not in
my room, I'm at the keyboard -- so I've had many measurements taken and meds given right here in front of you.
.
.
That includes some tuchis shots.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
But I really didn't have to tell any of YOU that.
.
.
.
.
.
We both know that's the main reason you're tuning in to this channel
.
.

good to see you're moving right along. Keep on keeping on!!! We're all still pulling for you! We'll even pull you along if needed. :-)

Looking forward to your next update, as I'm sure by that point, the nurses will have given into their uncontrollable need to "touch" the MFM.

Don't forget to "snif" really big before that cough. (hint: stick your tongue out when coughing , and it will help the big cough muscle do a stronger job!)
