Confession: I had never listened to Elmore James until today
Edited on Fri Jun-03-11 11:45 AM by Taverner
Well, knowingly at least.

Thing is, I went through a blues phase in the 90s. John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Willie Dixon, and it was all OK.

But I never heard Elmore until recently. Someone in a Rolling Stones thread mentioned how he was a big inspiration to the boys.

Wow - unlike other blues, this stuff is, well, EXCELLENT!

Usually when I thought of blues, I would thing every song sounding the same, E - A - B chord progression.

But not James.

This is like, beyond the blues. Taking the blues, and using it as a vessel rather than a foundation.

Shit, now I gotta go out and get all of Elmore James' records!

ON EDIT: Turns out Jimi was a huge fan of James. Makes perfect sense.
