Another annoying thing about the streaming service on NetFlix
For each film, you get a brief cast list, the director's name, and the year of release. The descriptions that they offer are preposterously truncated, with no obvious reason why the user shouldn't be able to scroll to an additional screen of info. That's annoying enough, all by itself.

However, I hate when the description is something like this:

Jonathan Johnsonson helms this action packed 2004 release starring William Superlongname and Melissa Evenlongername about a pair of star-crossed lovers who

And that's it. WTF? You're already giving me the director and stars, so why cram that info into the twitter-length synopsis? As a result, unless I actually know what the movie is about, I sure as hell won't figure it out from that idiotic summary.

Someone should be catapulted for this.

1. I can't simply sit by while the rest of you turn a blind eye to this NetFlix atrocity!

2. Just open a new window and check IMDB or any of the other thousands of sites with info about movies
Or just watch part of the damn movie and decide for yourself if you want to continue watching it.

What part of 'unlimited' streaming do you not understand?

4. That "new window" trick doesn't work too well when you're streaming through a wii console
Otherwise, thanks for your helpful suggestion that the user should do more to give the paid-for service a bare minimum of functionality!

:hi:

6. For chrissakes, ever hear of a laptop?
If you're using Netflix on a wii then why are you complaining about a lack of text?

It's a goddamn TV, a visual thing.

Never used it on a wii but it works just fine on my Xbox.

If I was in the mood to read I'd get out a book, not turn on a movie service.

I'm tempted to post another "call out taterguy" thread, you weisenheimer!

10. That's hard to do while I'm driving, and did I mention that I'm texting at the same time?

3. And the synopsis for series episodes aren't even right.
At least for the Soap series, they glommed the synopsis from the recap at the beginning of the show, so it's always a week behind. You think you watched that episode? You didn't. They're actually describing the previous episode. It's not terribly terrible if you know that there is a snafu, but I tried to skip at least one while I was streaming the series.

Stupid synopsisizers, I hate you!

5. Yeah, dammit!
Some of the synopses don't even synopsize the episodes at all! They give the episode title and then a brief synopsis of the series itself.

Jerks!

7. Call Congress. RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
I'm SERIES!!

Truth be told, their search feature totally sucks and needs some serious overhauling. I believe they should toss it on the dung heap and start over.

11. DirecTV program descriptions are as bad
NCIS "A marine is found dead" "A sailor is dead" "A soldier is missing"

The fun one I found today was "'Dr. Drew' (2011) Dr. Drew Pinsky. Dr. Drew Pinsky talks with...." Gee, I wonder who is the star of that show?
