6. Well yeah! Let me put it this way
At age 9, I thought there were three people in the world who were cool

And keep in mind this was in opposition to my being raised by a Right Wing Nixonite Culture Warrior Dad...

John Denver, Jimmy Carter and our Minister (a seriously leftist Rev Glenn Fuller who marched with King at Selma, and died trying to bring peace to Kosovo)

I may not believe in God, but I still believe in these three....

Edited on Fri Aug-05-11 11:02 PM by Riftaxe
no clue about your minister...*gah, i just searched you tube for ministers...* needless to say i will not be posting any links to that :P

But in remembrance of greats who have passed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbURkDqE0Cs}">Dearest
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjFRHIhSvwc">Love is strange

Purposely let off of peggy sue, only thing the poor guy is remembered for :)

But he was a prolific song writer.

8. Hey man, he was a rarity
Chances are the Methodist Council, or whatever they have did nothing to promote him...

I'm an atheist, but I'd support him!

He passed in the late 90s

Why can't there be more ministers than him????

--------------------

And yes, John Denver did rock

For every "I Want to Live" there was a "Rocky Mountain HIGH"

2. Hard to believe that Jim Steinman went from Bat out of Hell to that crap, isn't it?
Apparently he and Mr. Loaf had a falling out, so Jim made that crap with Rod Stewart's bastard sister, and Meat made a record without him that didn't do so well, which is why it took so long for "Bat Out of Hell II" to come into existence after that,

18. Not on a bet
And I recall no rottweilers. Other than the dog door part, pretty fuzzy. May have been an overly friendly hound with a lot of extra saliva. Or that may have been some other unrelated memory.

I also recall stepping over a bush and finding a rattlesnake between my legs, equally unhappy about the situation. That was the last time I recall being prepared to shoot an animal, because if he took me out I was going to take him as well. Then he found his hole and disappeared, and I was able to breathe again.

Ferris was the cool kid. The principal was the frustrated square. I wasn't nearly as cool as the principal. I took uncool to a whole new class in the 80's

31. I remember the '80's, all right
I remember when Reagen cut funding the state mental hospitals to the bare bones and left the mentally ill, except for those suicidal and/or homicidal, to fend for themselves on the streets. I've seen the disastrous effects of his policies: homeless mentally ill people barely existing on the streets, unable to care for themselves, falling prey to robbers, rapists, and murderers. ;(

36. yes - my dad was a psychiatrist, I don't think I've ever seen him so angry or sad
so many patients and people he cared for / about were set adrift; he did the best he could but so many fell through the cracks Reagan created.

32. I spent most of the 80s active duty military
It seemed like a different world then.

I think of it now as the beginning of most of what we suffer now. That was the decade that supply side economics was foisted upon an ignorant and gullible public. The greatest scam ever pulled on a society, IMO.
