1. Any rodent animal is going to have ummm
Piss that is going to stink to an unbelievable degree.

You have to clean the cage every day pretty much.

2. Ah, that must be what it was.
I'll tell her she'll have to clean the cage every day.

3. Yeah. The captive beasties aren't happy about it either.
They'd have gone well away from the nest to do their business if they'd of could.

To not clean a rodent cage daily is somewhat cruel.

4. Get some hamster bedding for the cage.
I believe it's made of cedar shavings that rectify the problem if memory serves.

5. She's using ground corn cobs now. Cedar seems a good idea.

7. I use the recycled paper bedding for my bunnies
Cedar isn't recommended, at least for rabbits, due to the possible presence of aromatic oils, and a link to liver damage. Your daughter can Google and probably find some type of bedding that's going to control odor and be safe for her new pets.

6. We always used to bring wounded birds to my mother. She later told me she was terrified of birds.
But she was a doctor and there was no lack of wounded birds as the cottages had big picture windows. Of course my mother would just give them a quick look over and prescribe a capful of some sort of alcohol. I don't think the birds often survived.

8. Get a second cage - guineas pigs are hard to figure out their sex
You could end up with more than two pigs!

Which leads to a favorite short story: Pigs is Pigs by Ellis Parker Butler
