Went to the dentist today.
I hadn't done that in two years. How long has it been since you saw you dentist?

2. Friday - good news I only need a crown!
A big chunk broke off one of my molars a week ago and I thought I was going to lose that tooth. It turned out that what came off was most of the ancient filling and there is enough of the tooth left to put a crown on. That's a big relief since getting an implant is not in my budget.

6. Actually, it was completely painless.
The dentist did a great job with the local anesthetics, and was apparently so careful about what he did in there that even after the anesthetics wore off it didn't hurt at all. He gave me a prescription for Vicoden but I never had to use it.

8. Sadly, I haven't been to the dentist since I was last able to afford dental care
After the initial diagnostic, the good doctor outline a course of care that would probably have run somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000.

I'll carve my own teeth out of soapstone before I can afford that kind of luxury, alas.

10. My prediction...Most all americans will be toothless soon...there is
no way a poor person could even afford a cleaning.

A friend of mine started college in dentistry...she finally quit...she said all they
talked about was ways to make money to pay for equipment

NUMBER ONE, AND DON'T EVER BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY TELL YOU...."YOU NEED ALL YOUR WISDOM
TEETH PULLED."

11. What a coincidence.

I still have my wisdom teeth even at my age. My dentist, an older conservative type who is getting ready to retire, warned me about this today for when I look for a new dentist. Now I know why. ;)

12. Interesting! Wish every doctor and dentist posting had the age
of the person! I still have all my wisdom teeth too - despite dire warnings many years ago that
if I didn't remove them the world as I know it would end.

Another tip...don't get full xrays. My friend said this was money maker scam the told them about too. If you have a
problem with a single tooth - just tell them to xray it only....much cheaper than the "full mouth" deal - which is totally unnecessary.

14. 6 Months ago. But I'm a dental veteran
Will get to the point where I can just put my teeth in an envelope and send them in for a cleaning soon.

I will say this though, you have to respect a profession that is still using the same instruments they were 600 years ago.

You'd think by now they'd have come up with something other than a sharp metal spike to dig around your mouth with.
