Don't feed someone over the age of 80 sushi. Just don't do it. It did not go well.

My dad ate half a california roll. Then he separated the fish from the rice and ate only the fish. I feel so silly for even trying something new. Needless to say when I left him he was hungry!!!

1. The older my dad got the less adventurous he was about food.
Eventually it was chicken and mashed potatoes and jello and not much else. I think when people get old they like to stick to comfortable, familiar things.

2. Absolutely. When I mentioned it to him he sounded interested. I was
hoping he would like it because there is a new sushi take out opening around the corner from my parent's home in a few weeks and I had hoped it would be the start of something new & healthy. So I thought I'd buy the sushi that the grocery store makes and which I like....to see if they liked it...but it didn't work out.

3. Sometimes.
I considered making a snarky comment about Japanese elders, but decided not to. You can fill it in yourself if you wish, that way I can sound wittier than I am.

I know older people who love new experiences, because they get them so rarely, or they just like adventure. Others kinda gel with what they know and are comfortable with, and have no desire to expand into new things.

I know one older man who will only consume 4 things: Mint chocolate ice cream, Pork Chops, Eggs, and coffee with hot chocolate mix. He would rather starve than eat anything else, even beautifully prepared. Serve him sushi, and your response would be "I don't do guppie". I know another, a WWII vet, who will try anything once, and generally enjoy it.

I used to dissect my sushi as well. I can not eat fish, and some of the pickled things they like to add to vegi rolls are not to my taste. plus the nori is definitely and acquired taste. I was generally more happy with a bowl of rice and some chicken. And I am not quite 80 yet. So its not just age. you just gotta know your person, and sometimes it wont work out even then.
