Let me preface this by saying, I love and enjoy all my patients...

Today was hell on wheels.

1st patient: Retired Ophthalmologist that came in wearing his self prescribed mono-vision toric soft contacts and wanted me to figure out why he wasn't seeing as well as he thought he should. Hello?! When was your last real eye exam? The contacts don't fit well and you have over corrected yourself.

2nd patient: Deaf (sign language) and couldn't see (Low vision). Think about it...phoropter in front of eyes in a darkened room trying to communicate with sign language that he couldn't see. Very funny man that kept us laughing.

3rd patient: Stroke victim unable to sit up (reclined wheel chair) can't transfer to exam chair to use phoropter to do refraction. She couldn't even see the eye chart. Very sweet and we worked through it, but it wasn't easy on either of us, but we had some laughs.

There were lots of patients scheduled in and around the 3 above, sadly they had to wait a little longer than usual today.

Tomorrow is Friday!

1. I had a friend
with issues that drove every ophthalmologist crazy.

Extreme short term memory loss combined with word salad issues. Combined with a severe issue rendering him essentially blind in one eye.

By the time you could get him to sit forward with his forehead against the deal, he had forgotten why he was doing it and would move away from this uncomfortable contraption.

Can you read the first line? Did he just make up letters or did he read something on the far side of the room or did he actually think he saw those letters? When the letter is an f and he says "red" did he see it and mistake his word, or...

I did my best to help, but those visits were no fun for anyone.
