Men are attracted to circles
I don't know how many times I've complimented a woman on her attractiveness, only for her to respond with "Thanks - but I'm fat." Often times these women are not what you would call "overweight" - even though some would be deemed by society as such.

Thing is, most guys I know are attracted to circles. What affectionately are called "Earth Mothers" (although I hate that term.) Most guys would rather be with a woman than a 12-year-old boy, which is what most models in ads look like to me. Hell, most of the models in those ads don't even look like that! Most of that is Photoshop trickery.

Women have curves, and throughout human history those curves were celebrated. Just take a look at Rubens' art for an example. There is nothing on Earth as striking and as exhilarating as the embrace of a woman with curves.

And let's talk cellulite. I am a fan of it. It adds depth to a woman's beauty. It is beautiful in itself - cascading down a woman's hamstrings. It helps connect the circles.

Stretch marks? Like marks in fine leather, also adding depth. Giving a woman's skin what I perceive as beauty marks.

Real women have curves. It's high time we celebrated the circle.

1. Some of those "runway models" looked like refugees from
A concentration camp.

4. That is just gross.
I never got the skinny look. I think they just look sick and in need of a good meal. I'll take a woman (or man) with a few extra pounds any day.

6. Frightening!
Those models look ill. They're way too thin to be healthy.

My granddaughter, on the other hand, is nicely "circular." :-)

12. That doesn't even makes the clothes look good
Which was supposedly the reason for it - attention to the clothing rather than the actual person wearing them.

7. I call bullshit on the bullshit "real women" meme
Edited on Fri Oct-07-11 04:18 PM by Orrex
Anyone with eyes can tell that women come in all shapes and sizes, and it's bullshit to decrying one body type simply because it matches a current aesthetic ideal.

I know a number of women who would likely be condemned as anorexic or starving or unhealthy, simply because they're more slight of build, even if they're perfectly healthy. Not condemned to their faces, of course, but only after they've out of earshot. Then it's open season on these "unreal" women who lack sufficient curves to be considered "real."

And what the hell does it mean to say that "men are attracted to circles?" On what do you base that nonsensical proclamation?

10. It's the pretty clear implication
If someone says "real Americans vote Republican," the natural inference is that the statement intends to link "real American-ness" to voting Republican.

Pick some word other than "real," or change it to "real women also have curves."

The very construction of the meme seeks to pit one group of women against another.

22. I have circles in all the right places but they're probably not to your specification.
I missed out on the cellulite & stretch marks, thanks to an interest in sports in my not-so-distant past. I'm not overweight, which is what I think your preference is.

AND, I got hit on recently by a man who is 20 years younger than I am. He probably needs glasses?

I haven't been on here in roughly two years (since the Great Lounge Flameout/Mass Banning Debacle of '09; apparently I reeeally needed a break), but this is a very nice first post to find upon my tentative return. Thanks!
