Question for cat people
My cat Buddy has all of a sudden decided he doesn't like floors anymore. He did get fleas, but I have taken care of that. I also checked his nails, but they don't seem too long. Most of my floors are wooden, but it never bothered him before. I know most cats are whacked, but I'm a bit confused by this sudden turn of events. Any ideas?

3. Who can figure...it is a cat. You can only hope
that this too will pass.

I really have no idea. All of my cats have done strange things, decided they liked or did not like just about everything. It usually doesn't last.

6. My cat is like that - he will cross floors only to get to the next high surface
I think cats prefer the high ground - the better to attack from.

7. There are two basic types of cats: floor cats and air cats.
Floor cats don't mind walking around or even sleeping on floors, and they don't care much about perching on the tops of doors, refrigerators, etc. Air cats, on the other hand, avoid floors whenever possible and try to achieve the highest possible elevation within their territory. They are usually excellent jumpers.

A floor cat usually will remain a floor cat, and air cats usually remain air cats, although sometimes they become floor cats when they get too old to jump -- but your floor cat may have simply decided he'd rather be an air cat. There doesn't have to be a reason other than that he's a cat.

8. If they have had fleas jump on them
from the floor, they may adopt a roaring suspicion and not want to "touch down" for a while until they realize the threat is gone.

This year was a particularly bad flea year (at least here in the Northeast). If Buddy did have the flea encounter he is being careful and if he is anything like my guys he'll get over it.

9. Seasonal change in temperature?
Cats don't like cold, hard surfaces. Get some throw rugs.

10. Thanks everyone
I've had cats since I was 6 months old and I'm 47 and Buddy is the most unusual cat I've ever had. He is his own dude..lol. My friend found him on the streets last year and when she took him in her cat didn't get along with Buddy so she asked if I would take him on a trial basis. I did and he cracked me up. He amuses the shit out of me, but he also confuses the shit out of me. I try to make his life here as layed back as possible, but this thing about being "anti-floor" bothers me. I hope he grows out of it.
