When you first got beyond candy and had an allowance what did you repeatedly buy? I bought
Bonniebell lipsmakers. Orange was my favourite. I would go directly to the Bay if I had any money.

8. girlie stuff
Make-up, clothes, hair stuff, junk jewelry, perfume, etc. And yeah, Bonnie Bell lipsmackers... I remember them well. I think my favorite was raspberry or something like that. There was also some kind of gooey sticky lip gloss that had sparkles in it that was a big hit when I was that age.

10. I would save it up for the state fair!
The fair came every year and with it, carnival rides, animal exhibits, fried food on a stick and people from all over the state.

my "allowance" was gleaned from newsboys, with the aid of the ubiquitous "alley-apple" so common in south St. Louis streets.

4.) For some odd reason the girls in my class liked to smoke cigars.
