Anybody ever see the Inspector Morse shows produced by the BBC?
I got a bunch as a present and I've loved them! Great acting, writing, characterization. Much better than the standard US detective show, imo.

1. No - you're the only one :)
Just kidding!!

We've watched them for years - fantastic show. The spin-off "Lewis" can be seen on Masterpiece Mystery sometimes.

There are many other British mystery shows you would probably like - many available on Netflix (though Morse are mostly DVD only). PM me if you want a list. :)

2. Thanks! Yes, I've seen Lewis and enjoy that as well.
Boy he's played that part for many years.

19. They're on their ninth season now
Netflix has all of them on both instant view and DVD, as does iTunes.

20. I love that one too
I think it's my favorite after the Robin Hood series that they did for a few years. Since I don't get cable I have to find them online... it would be nice to see them on the tv though, so I bought the whole Robin Hood series on DVD, and I think I may buy the MI-5 series, too (though that one will cost a whole lot more since it's been running for so much longer).

4. Most of what I watch is Brit series, they do it so well.
Even the minor character actors are excellent, rarely a false note.

We are now hooked on New Tricks, with Alun Armstrong, who I also liked in the new series Garrow's Law.
Recommend both highly.

Netflix has 3 seasons of New Tricks and the first season of Garrow's Law, which is a new series.

fills up the spaces waiting for Downton Abbey episodes.

11. count me in...
I've had not heard of Garrow's Law - just looked it up and it sounds good too. Will have to check it out. It has 2 things that the BBC does well -- period pieces and detective stories.

New Tricks sounds like our "Cold Case" which I used to like too.

13. New Tricks is fast paced and humorous.
After awhile it wears a bit thin, but the sub plots and esp the characters keep it interesting.

18. Some PBS stations show New Tricks at odd times
Ours usually shows them on Saturday night on the second channel, but tonight they had some one-night pledge drive thingy with a "miracle cure" guy on selling his books. :grr:

21. Brit tv is sooooooo much better than the shit programing we have
whether it's comedy or action or drama. US tv seems to all be written for incredibly stupid and shallow people. It all sucks.

5. Love the show.
Been watching since they first aired. Now there's the Inspector Lewis spin-off- great as well. To get my Morse fix, I finally started reading the books. Finished "Daughters of Cain" recently.

6. Watched whenever possible; Now Inspector Lewis on.
(and a 'new' one, Foyle's War.)

Watch Law and Order occasionally, or in desperation, but the Brits do it best.

7. Yes, they're wonderful. The late, great John Thaw was perfect as Morse
The books by Colin Dexter featuring Inspector Morse are a real treat, too.

Two actors who perfectly matched their fiction characters were John Thaw as Morse, and Leo McKern as Rumpole. I can't read either the Morse or Rumpole books without visualizing those two actors going through their paces.

9. Yes, I love them, and am now loving the spinoff, "Lewis." Great characters and writing. So-so
mysteries, but the fun is in the people.

I don't care if I follow the plot or not...

14. If you have a region-free DVD player, you can order ALL 35+ Morse episodes
from Amazon UK for the same price that U.S.-based stores charge for one four-episode set.

In fact, Amazon UK tends to have really good prices on any TV that's more than a couple years old.

15. Yes
I live in Oxford, where they are set and were filmed. Really good, IMO; though sometimes the plots got a bit convoluted.

17. Saw a few on PBS
I loved it too. Sadly, PBS either canceled it or put it on at some obscure time of the day and very infrequently so I could never find it again. If they're on DVD I think I might want to get them. I've bought a few BBC series shows on DVD and watch them over and over.

The UK has quite a lot of awesome actors, and it's really a shame that they don't get nearly the exposure and huge projects that far too many mediocre actors get just because of not being near Hollywood. The UK also seems to have much better quality tv shows than the US does.
