Has anyone ever taken care of a parkinsons' patient? Are they particularly
vulnerable to touch? My mother winces and shouts in pain when I touch her.

1. My father-in-law died of it.
He didn't seem to mind being touched at all. Toward the end, he was crying out in his delirium to
fellow soldiers long gone, telling them to watch out for incoming Russian artillery, reliving
battle scenes he had repressed for over 50 years. But he still recognized the touch of his wife
and daughter when they held his hand, and smiled to the extent that he could.

2. I think you might be dealing with a separate problem
Tactile sensitivity doesn't really seem to be a symptom of Parkinson's. Sorry, Applegrove, that must be really tough, I hope you can get some help from her MD.

3. Hi Apple
I've taken care of many and she likely does have pain. The tremors and rigidity of the muscles is fatigue inducing. Plus she may have any other number of age related aches and pains. Remember that Robin Williams movie Awakenings? There is a book about it that gave me great insight into parkinsons.

4. My dad had it.
I don't recall that he was particularly sensitive to an ordinary touch, although he bruised very easily. He had a lot of other pains, though, not all of which were necessarily related to Parkinsons. It's a nasty disease - hope you and you mother are coping as much as possible. Check with the medical people - it might be something else and there might be something she can take for it.
