It was a simple philosphy.
If he didn't force his co-workers to buy the stuff his kids were selling for various school and after-school projects then he wouldn't have to buy any of the stuff other co-workers were selling for their kids.
He loved us to death and he would help us as much as possible with selling to the neighborhood. We were lucky, there weren't that many kids in our neighborhood so usually whatever we were selling we were the only ones selling it. Plus we had a local bakery so I had no problem dropping off Girl Scout Cookies or Hoagies from my high school singing group and sell them. The Bakery was great, I wouldn't even take orders - I was to give them a weeks notice of when we had a Hoagie sale and then I was to take in about 200 hoagies. They would sell out within an hour since many people would buy extras to take home to their families (this was a commericial bakery)
After my father passed away my mother had to join the work force and she practiced the same philosphy although she had to start taking the hoagies into work since some of her coworkers had a chance to taste the one my mom would take into work each day.
