It germinated in a backyard flowerbed beneath a window. It was very surprising, as in "Hey hon, what's this weed?" LOL for sure!

My grandmother's neighbor had some (actually a lot, probably a 20# yearly yield or more) in his backyard flowerbeds. She thought the plants were pretty and asked him repeatedly for a clipping she could transplant into her yard. He kept refusing for obvious reasons...who in their right mind would give a clipping of their marijuana plant to the naive clueless lawful CTGOP cmtewoman next door?

She just thought he was being an asshole so she sneaked over in the middle of the night when he wasn't home and helped herself to a large clipping. My mother showed up sometime in the next week to check on her parents and grandma has it in a flowerpot on the windowsill waiting for it to take roots so she can plant it. My mother, hippie that she was, immediately knows that it's a pot plant but has no idea why her parents have it in the kitchen...pretty sure that grandpa, the man who thinks that we should execute potheads has no idea what it is. She doesn't want to come out and ask so she starts asking questions about where it came from, thinking that it's her teenaged (at that time incarcerated) youngest brother's plant that grandma found and being naive was clueless about. Grandma, feeling guilty for stealing the clipping, decides to play obtuse. Grandma calls her nosy...and around we go.

After about twenty minutes, my mother just comes out with "Ma, it's weed."
"It's not a weed. Weeds are unwanted unloved plants. I think it's beautiful."
"No...ma. It's marijuana."
"Oh oh oh...get rid of it! I don't want it around! I don't want it in my house!"

So my mother gets rid of the plant.

Grandma wants to call the police. My mother, not even wanting to deal with this, tells grandma that because she stole the plant and was growing it that they'll arrest her too for being a pot farmer.

After that, grandma was scandalized. Those were the "bad" neighbors. She used to cluck if they got too close to the property line.

Tom who most of us got it from. One day somebody said, "What, you're getting it from Tom? You should get it from his grandma, hers is lots better and she charges less." So, I'd have to say, Tom's grandma, lol.
