hard to do!
I don't have a name to address the letter to, and all I keep typing is DEAR A**HOLES.
Our mortgage ended up with BOA because they bought it from Taylor Bean, when Taylor Bean went out of business after a major honcho there stole millions (they almost stole $10,000 from us, but because I was pushy, we got out of that scam after a week of sweating bullets, that's another story....). Just to say we never wanted Bank of A**holes to have our mortgage.
Several months into them holding our mortgage, they write to us and tell us they don't have homeowner's insurance info. Unfortunately, our home life was in a bit of turmoil over other things at the time, and we overlooked that notice. Our bad. So BOA bought a homeowner's policy for us. The premiums were $970 a year instead of the $370 we had been paying. So then they notified us that our monthly payments would be going up $100 a month: $50 to cover the escrow deficiency since only $370 had been accrued for the past year, plus $50 more a month to accrue more for the anticipated $970 for the next year if the policy was renewed. Ouch, but our bad for not following up.
Frankly, I don't think they didn't get the policy info, I think they lost it 'accidentally on purpose'. I am sure they did get the 50% commission for selling a new insurance policy.
So, this year, I got coverage from our old insurer once again for $370. BOA was notified. What I had NOT noticed with the new policy was that we had inadvertenly DUPLICATED coverage for 5-6 days. The old policy BOA bought covered through Aug 31, 2011. The new policy picks up on August 25, 2011 and ends August 25, 2012.
What does BOA do with this? THEY SEND US A LETTER STATING THERE WAS A LAPSE IN COVERAGE! I quote: "According to the information we received, there was a lapse in your hazard insurance coverage between the start date of your new policy and the expiration/cancellation date of your previous coverage. The charges for this lapse was (sic) advanced by Bank of America to pay for coverage during this period where your insurance had lapsed. You are obligated by your loan documents to reimburse Bank of America for the lapse of insurance coverage within 15 days, or your required monthly payments will be adjusted to collect the amount due." And they want us to copy the zillion pages of policies for both last year (the policy THEY GOT ISSUED) and this year and send it in to them, when clearly, they HAVE the policies right in front of them, or else they would not have seen a discrepancy in the dates in the first place. AAAAAHHHHHHH!
OMG!!!! OMG!!!! Are they completely inept? Or are they just trying to scam us? This ain't rocket science. August 25 is before August 31.
HERE'S THE PART THAT REALLY ENRAGES ME: THE SKANKS HAVE NOT EVEN PAID FOR THE NEW POLICY YET OUT OF THE (excessive) escrow we have paid into. THE POLICY IS ABOUT TO BE CANCELLED BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 60 DAYS AND THE SKANKS HAVE NOT EVEN PAID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, my name is on the deed but not the mortgage, so they won't talk to me until we fax hubby's authorization. He's a school teacher who CAN'T access them during the day, and believe me, they do not want him calling. He just bought a V mask and is considering going to Wall Street this week end.
BOA did say our insurance agent could call to work it out. So I had the agent call the same number I called, and they told her this is J P Morgan Chase, not BOA. WTF???? I got this phone number off of their letter to me, on BOA letterhead, and I had just been on the phone with them while they looked up our account (and then refused to talk to me). So I got another number, hopefully my agent will be able to extract this almost 2 month late payment from BOA before the policy is cancelled. Or we'll have to wait until Monday and poor hubby will have to spend god-knows-how-long on the phone with the butt breaths.
UPDATE: BOA told my agent they had sent a check to pay it and it had been cashed. The agent requested a copy of the cashed check and is hoping they get it tomorrow. FRANKLY I DON'T BELIEVE BOA AT THIS POINT. ANOTHER STALL TACTIC, HOLD THE MONEY AS LONG AS THEY CAN.
As far as the 'lapse in coverage', part of me wants to not reply and to see what they 'charge us', if anything. But our escrow review will be coming in the next month or two, and I want to see those payments go back down. Doubt they will be required to refund us the extra $600 they took over the past year for that outrageous premium we aren't paying, but I want that escrow payment dropped now. So I have to write a letter.
All I can get my fingers to type is:
Dear Assholes:
WTF is wrong with you people? Are you completely inept, or completely evil and trying to prey upon your customers, hoping they won't figure it out? Your 'ineptness' is far too systematic to be believed at this point. I worked in accounting and insurance for 20 years, and this level of incompetence on your part is frightening.
Enclosed is my bill to you for $50 to cover the half of a day I had to spend to pull out documents (that you clearly already have in front of you), copy them, be on the telephone with my insurance agency, etc., because of YOUR ERROR.
Look for us at the OWS!
