Lord Have Mercy! Raphael Saadiq Channels Motown!

and Stax and Sly and Chess Records--with the occasional Beatles keyboard lick for extra texture. Caught him a couple weeks ago on Austin City Limits. Got to wondering where my jaw was and found it on the floor. (Internal Dialogue: "Fool, how have you managed to miss somebody this good for this long?")

This young man MUST have been listening when Taj Mahal taught of The Groove, 'cause he lays it down a mile deep and dances on top of it. BONUS POINTS: he plays that Telecaster like Steve Cropper was his Grampaw.
