What was your first music cd?
My answer: My first music cd was ABBA Gold. I received it in 1996 from an old on-line friend who lived in Minnesota. Back in the day, we used IRC. She also sent me a Sony "boombox" which I still have. The boombox still has white speckles on it because she was doing some painting before she sent it to me. I was living in peace and solitude in Whitefish, Montana. I have the boombox here in Oregon, 15 years later. Since I received it in Montana, it has traveled with me to homes in Nevada, Texas and California.

It has traveled with me in my old car (which I no longer own) through the North, South, East and West. It still works!

The ABBA cd, well, it better be in storage! ;-)

2. I believe I purchased five at once
If memory serves, one of those was London Calling by The Clash. Another one was ChangesOneBowie, David Bowie's greatest hits album. The rest? No recollection whatsoever, but I still have them, whatever they were.

A Gershwin's Greatest Hits CD, featuring Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris. The memory of the other two may be lost to history.

Hah, I'd be shocked if you DID know them. The first is a...Finnish?...death metal band. And the second is an American deathcore band. Not the two most popular genres. ;)

73. I don't listen to negative stuff. No heavy metal, no death metal for me.
being around negative people will destroy you and drive you nuts.
gotta guard your head, what goes into it.

But then I grew up on classical and 60s British Invasion rock 'n' roll.

I gave up on pop music when The Police broke up in 1983, just as they were getting really good. :(

and there were so many classics that year I lost count. I have to laugh at the people who always say "There's great music out there now-you just have to look for it...". My answer to that would be "In the 60's we didn't have to look."

78. lol, I probably know a few of the same ones he does
So I can make terrible suggestions until he returns.

Start with Napalm Death. Scum is their first album but I love everything they've ever done.

I like 'em a lot and only partly because they are lefties like me. lol (Most of their lyrics are political but they do a bit of religion bashing too. But only on them what deserves it.)(and I completely understand that is not everyone's cup of tea so it doesn't hurt my feelings if someone doesn't like what I like)

They do a great cover of the Dead Kennedys' Nazi Punks Fuck Off.

Or maybe Tangerine Dream - Encore. I know the Tangerine Dream album was one of the earliest, but I remember carrying around the Pink Floyd CD to test sound systems when we were shopping for a new one.

Edited to add - I bought both those CDs because I had put serious wear on the vinyl versions. When I went in to buy new ones, the store didn't carry vinyl anymore. So I bought the CDs and went out to get my first CD player so I could listen to them again.

70. Led Zeppelin IV
I was underwhelmed, some of the early transfers form the original master tapes to CD format weren't that good :(

71. If I remember correctly...
The First CD I ever bought was called "Super Drumming". At the time (around '86-'87) I was a huge Beatles fan and wanted to be Ringo Starr (I am still a Beatles fan, but for a while, as a kid, they were all I listened to), so anything drum-related had major appeal to me. It was a German production, the music was modern Jazz, with a bunch of famous drummers playing on the various songs (Pete York, Cozy Powell, Louie Bellson, Simon Philips, Ian Paice and a few others). I actually liked it, for it being the impulse buy of a kid, only because it had "drumming" in the title. I never got to be Ringo though, I had to compromise and learn the guitar when my parents said that no way was I going to play the drums in our apartment. :)

The first CD I bought that wasn't a random buy was Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of A Seventh Son".

79. ABBA Gold
I own that CD as well and I also have around 60 songs they have done. Great group, great music and they still are popular especially in Europe. I'm 60 so I grew up listening to them. I still listen to their music almost everyday since my wife made CD's with their music on it. I'd suggest you find Dana Winner on you-tube. She does a medley of ABBA's songs and she is a very very good singer. Heck everything she sings is great. Helene Fischer from germany is another great singer.
