OK - so let's just say you have Audacity. You want to record whatever is going over your speakers.

2. Record an album
I have a drum machine I play to, a midi keyboard that pipes through a program that makes it sound like a Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, etc.. (jorgan), my guitar and bass through various amps....

I have been able to record the guitars, but not the computer-based stuff (keyboard and drums)

4. I used to do that with a program called Total Recorder
would record anything that came out the speakers - and it took it from the stream going to the speakers, not like a mic set up next to the speakers. The trial version would limit the length of your recording but the (cheap) paid version would do however much hard drive space you had.

Haven't messed with it in years though so not sure if they are still around.

Oh hey, looks like they are: http://www.highcriteria.com/

I never triad Audacity though I had friends that love it. I never needed more than the free version of TR because I used it for sound bites that always fell under the time limit.
