They are releasing West Side Story in theaters for one day, 11/9...
This is a digitally remastered version and it is all for the 50th anniversary of the Award Winning musical.

I remember in 8th grade they took us to the theater to see the show when we were studying Romeo and Juliet and how I was mesmerized by the dancing and the singing and the overall look and feel of the movie.

I remember my mother bought the album when I was about 3 and how she would pay America and dance around with me in her arms, one of my earliest and special memories.

It started a lifetime love of music theater and for a very long time I had to hide my love as so many of my Friends growing up thought anything like that would be homo, as they said back then.

Last summer, the touring broadway revival came through and I went to see the play and it was really good. The play is staged much different from the movie since they used New York City as a stage when filming the movie.

It turned me on to Stephen Sondheim who is a true American Master.

It truly is an American art form, the musical. So many have been made that it is hard to choose which one is the best. Me, well, I've been going to musicals since I snuck into see the M rated Cabaret one saturday back in 1972.

To me, the play Romeo and Juliet is the most accessible Shakespeare play and West Side Story is a real great way to ease into Musical Theater.

I'm going to try my damndest to get to the show and see the movie in all it's remastered splendor.

If you are not busy the Wednesday after next, drop ten bucks and two and a half hours and see one of the best pieces of art ever put out by the American hit makers from Broadway and Hollywood.

1. I have never seen it in its entirety. It's high time I did...
Maybe I can get there...

It's a wonderful, heartbreaking story, and really still relevant, as all good stories are...

Thanks for the tip!

2. I am so happy!
I've been hoping and wishing for a big national 50th year Anniversary re-release of the great classic film, West Side Story, and it's finally happening! I'll be there, come hell or high water!

Too bad that it's only for one night, though!:)

9. One thing about the classic film, West Side Story:
Many, if not most of what's been coming out nowadays in the way of movies, especially movies like Ben Affleck"s newest 1 year old movie, "The Town", cannot compete with, let alone be compared to West Side Story!

I've already got tickets for the 50th-year West Side Story event in our area for myself and a friend of mine, and we're both looking forward to going!
