I wish I could get excited about my drawings. My wife and kids tell me I'm good but I just chalk that up to they kinda have to. I've always been too critical of my own work to share it much although I did recently take a 1 day oil painting class (In the Bob Ross school from a certifiable, err, I mean certified Bob Ross teacher and I'll be damned if I didn't make something I was almost kinda proud of.
Not too bad for my first ever painting:
I at least liked it enough to pursue painting further...
But yeah, I really enjoyed going through your dad's site. I know exactly how he feels regarding commercial art and/or trying to be creative based on doing what someone else is telling you to do. My one single entry into the field was many years ago when I did the cover art for a local metal band's demo tape. It was even sold in local record stores (Although I think my grandma was the only person to buy one outside of the bands's family). But it was torture to draw (all in pencil and about 3 feet wide before being shrunk down to cassette tape size) becasue every time I thought I had something good going the band would ask for changes and I had to do them since they were the client even though it often went against my artistic sensibilities lol.
And I like his take on bullshit too. I think we would have a good time if we ever got to meet.
