I just posted a quote and a link on Facebook for Harvey Mackay's new book, "The Mackay MBA of Selling in the Real World."

As many of you know, I have my own business, and I am a sole proprietor, so I am also my own "sales force."

The book addresses the challenges salespeople are facing right now, in this economy, and I have thumbed through it. It's a good one, and I was planning to buy it today. Right now, the bills are covered and I have money for groceries and gas, but $26 for a book is something a little outside of my budget.

My sister replied to my Facebook post: "Can I buy this for you?"

You already have the innate qualities for success in sales. You're full of good conversation, you love your work, you're good at it, & you have the drive to succeed.

...the reason I was attracted to this book is its attempt to bridge the gap between "old school" sales (making contacts, setting appointments, closing deals) and the newer social media approach (I am on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn...but so far haven't really harnessed them to generate sales in my business).

So in this economy, anything that will give you an extra "edge" is worth its weight in gold.
