I really miss Luby's fresh cooked vegetables.

5. I am.
Taking a nice drive to the farm to check on it, then drive around the Hill Country.

I have a new camera I want to try out.

I will visit a few friends in Austin on Saturday.

I will be frying a turkey for them.

They work on holidays so Thanksgiving will be on Saturday.

12. Sounds good. Haven't been to Austin much since going to meet with the AFS re the Vietnam war.
Also went there and met with Ann Richards and worked on her campaign with my union. It was a great place for vegetarian food but I know it's grown tremendously. Last time I was down that way I went from Houston to New Mexico and back. Every time I've flown back I'm just amazed at the changes. The prosperity in many places, the increase in highways, and particularly I did enjoy see the many electric generating windmills and other changes in the rural areas. Have a safe and relaxing scenic tour.

16. That is what I am going to do, just drive the Farm to Markets roads.
I really haven't had time to use my new camera, a digital SLR.

Houston is always changing, not always for the best.

I need a road trip it clear my mind, just mess around.

Hope it rains again so the animals can go back to the farm.

Going to be strange seeing a empty farm house and barn.

Houston is green but the hill country is still dry.

I am heading out early tomorrow.

Have a great holiday freshwest.

26. I used to live out on an FM. It was so far out, it was almost never used, but it was well paved.
It was the kind of area where they make the joke about not using your turn light because everyone knows where you're going. Out there, everyone waved at anyone coming down the road, as if was a great thing. A real wave, you know, with all the fingers, not just one. I miss that kind of friendly interaction between strangers.

36. My Grandparents lived on a road like that.
I was always carefull driving when I was 12 and 13 years old.

Everyone knew me and whose truck I was in.

It is a nice way to just drive and kind of get lost.

18. If you actually live in NYC, how can you really be alone? Just sayin'..
I live in an multistory apartment building. The definition of not being alone, ha ha!! Nice neighbors and interesting street sounds around here though. Plenty of neon lights down on the street and lots of birds greeting the day in the morning.

20. Ah, no longer in NYC.... BUT my favorite T-Day was w/ a Puerto Rican family in the Lower East Side
Years ago, I was a student, the whole family worked at Katz's Deli on Houston and they were on different shifts.

Maximo was the dad.

I loved that they invited me knowing that I didn't have a place to be.

19. Rather than spend hours cooking a turkey, I filled in with a precooked turkey breast.
Stovetop stuffing, canned gravy, beverage, fresh sliced French bread. I slaved over that meal nearly 15 minutes.

And truth to tell, it was excellent.

You figure things out living alone.

35. You would hate it if I came..
I'm a great suggestion-giver, no offense..

Opposite with my grown kids - they don't know a better way, or any way, and they have no idea of how much work goes into just breaded chicken or mashed potatoes (boxed flakes easier)...

Reminds me...my grandson (7) was over one summer day and I was cleaning corn on the cob and he wanted to help, and he did. He pulled the leaves off and then put them all in a plastic bag for the garbage and helped me load them into boiling water once it started (on a chair)...

He at one point said, "Gramma, isn't it easier to open a can of corn?"

That's the kind of company I get - even the grownups say it's easier to open a can or put some frozen thing in the microwave...

We are both under-appreciated from 2 opposites..

Have a great day tomorrow, and that's not a suggestion. It's an order.

Love..

41. If nobody enjoys Thanksgiving, why do we have it?
Oh, I forgot. Our merchants want us to show gratitude to our Creator. But instead we feel resentment because of the work, the cost and spending the day with our family. Or spending the day alone feeling unloved. . . Sort of reminds me of Christmas.

51. Thankfully, we are spending the day to ourselves.
I have not done family holidays since...gee.....1983.
As in NO November/December holidays, no turkey, no tree, nada.
by choice.

All this week we had a crew of guys over, every day, to turn a small forest into clear dirt.

So today..it is sunny, it is quiet, and I am cooking home made sweet and sour chicken
and watching movies from a huge stack that a dear friend has sent me.
Even the dog is quiet today.

Sunshine and peace and quiet...perfect holiday.

Oh, if you have not done so, go see what Google has put up for us to play with on the home page.
I have been clicking on various parts of it for the last 15 minutes.

53. I didn't want to celebrate this year.
I don't have the person Thanksgiving was about anymore and I could care less about it now. Actually, the holidays only cause grief this year because it was only a few months ago. I do not know if I really liked the holidays in the first place, to tell you the truth. I was not sure exactly what I was going to do, but I sat home quietly in my chair, trying not to think about all the things that made me cry all week, so I wouldn't have to cry today.

Trying to be around other people today would have just been hard work and no fun, nothing against other people, mind you.
