The Tigers open 2-0 on the road for the first time since 1984. And all Tiger fans remember how well that season turned out.
John
That is, we won the World Series -- in case you missed it.

2. Hey, the TIgs have two wins under their belts for 2004
And it isn't even May 1 yet.
John
Nate Robertson struck out the side in the ninth, in case you weren't listening in.

4. Hell will freeze over when the Lions win the superbowl
At least the Tigers have won the World Series twice in my lifetime (1968 and 1984). The Lions have an occasional season that is better than usual (mostly when Barry Sanders played for them), but are pretty useless most years.

5. I was born in 1956. I was in diapers the last time the Lions won anything

And I suspect I'll be back in diapers before they win anything again.
My friend Mike B (also b. 1956) and I have an ongoing supposition, to wit: "Will the Lions win a Super Bowl in our lifetimes?" Short answer: "no."
However -- most of us, once upon a time in, say, the 60s and 70s never thought the Pistons and the Red Wings would amount to anything, either. And they've certainly surprised us.
The Tigers? I fully expect them to win at least one more World Series before I die. But then, I love them the best of the Detroit teams and always will.
John
"Win or lose, it's still Tiger baseball." Mike came up with that.

6. No -- they opened 2-0 at HOME in 1986
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 04:12 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
They won their first two at Minnesota in 1984.
John
Either way -- it's been 18 years overall and 20 years on the road since a 2-0 start. I don't know how this season will turn out, but it's off to a roaring start (Tiger allusion there).
ON EDIT: Blue Oyster -- I notice you and I have the same last screen name. Do you think we might be related?

8. Oops, you're right
First, I stand corrected RE 1984 and 1986. I somehow failed to notice that you wrote "on the road."

Second, we might be related (LOL on that question, BTW) - were any of your previous four generations from Ireland? :)

9. Re: Ireland
Hard to say. My family has always tended to sleep with whoever looked good at the time. Morally suspect, perhaps, but it's led to a devastatingly good-looking group of frisky mongrels who play well with others.
John
So I'm pretty sure there are some Irish in there, too (actually, my mom's maiden name was Garrett -- Scots/Irish -- but the Garretts have been here since, like, 1628 or something).
