I’ve moved house three times in my life –once when we changed countries, once when we changed cities and once when we relocated to a different part of the city.
You’re very fortunate to be remaining in the city where you and your son presently reside. For me moving to a new country was painful because it meant having to adjust to a new culture, a new lifestyle, a new way of doing things and so on. Oh, sure, it was also wonderful and exciting and I wouldn’t exchange my life in Australia for anywhere in the world but it was still quite a traumatic experience to leave the country where you had grown up in and where all your friends were. Not to mention leaving my elderly grandparents –who were in their late 80s by then and were very distraught at the prospect of us moving to a place where it would take ages for them to travel even by plane.
Good luck with the move, hope all goes well and that you enjoy your new home
And I'll take the bookshelves, I need more space for my books:) And the stereo. Only problem is that it'll cost both of us a fortune with the overseas shipping:)
