There's something inevitably disorienting about seeing this rock and roll warrior in middle-age, the hard miles on his face only partially obscured by wrap-around shades, American flag do-rag and cowboy hat, performing the material that made him famous at 22, surrounded by a younger (though by no means young) hired band, not to mention a full string and horn ensemble whose members had likely never heard of Love until a few weeks previous. But the new band is sublimely tight, and there's no denying Lee's energy and sheer delight to be back onstage performing his music again."
