I have a tough decision to make...Please help me!
Some of you may remember that I posted pictures of Basil (whom I would have named Barney) a few days ago. For those that don't remember:

Well, I just got mail from the shelter. Someone wants to adopt Basil and I'm really happy. Honest.

But I love the dog and I truly want to bring him home with me. We've got 4 cats, 2 dogs and one rabbit. Basil would need a lot of attention and that's fine. We have a small house but could make room if necessary.

What do I do? Do I let him go to a home where I can only hope that he'll be happy or do I bring him here where I know he'll be happy?

Sigh. Life sucks.

1. Give the dog away.
Before you become a "hoarder".

2. Let him go, sweetie.
I understand the dilemma so very, very well. I honestly do. Have been there so often myself.

But you guys already have enough to handle. If you must, think of how the overcrowding could affect the pets, including Barney. We have six cats and while they're all healthy and enjoy their lives, they get irritated with each other from time to time.

 Best wishes on your decision.

3. Tough one
I have five dogs and nearly 100 birds, including 30 parrots. Although I love all them all, I often wish I could spend more time with each of them one on one.

If Basil has no prospects for a home, I could understand and support your decision. In this case, be happy for him and go home and spend some time with the brood you already have.

I know it's a tough decision. I've been there more than once.

4. Let The Pup Be Adopted
There is a good chance that the people that want to adopt Basil wants their children to grow up with a pet with all the love and responsibilty that entails.

Check into it further if you must, but let the pup go.

5. OK, I've made my choice....Here is the letter that I sent to the shelter.
Hi there...

Basil is adorable and I want him to come home with me.

But he's got a chance at a good life with a family who wants to love him and has another member of the family who needs a friend. If Kristin wants him and can provide for safe transport then please let him make her happy.

If, however, she is NOT able to provide a transport for him then please consider us his family.

7. It turns out that Kristin...
Is a friend of mine who got the message that I sent with the pictures. She can give him a good home, I'm sure. I just hope that she can arrange for him to make it to her in Utah!

8. You said that your place was too small for him last time.
What changed?

9. Moving the dining room table to the basement...
(We don't use it anyway...) as well as moving some other stuff either out of the house completely or to the basement.

It does give us more room but I'm satisfied with the decision to let Kristin have him as long as she can find a way to get him to her (and I'm willing to help with that part as much as I can...)
