Thank you God.

1. or, if you take *'s stance
You'd say something like:

"Please take the day off and stop killing."

Because 'god' told * to do this, according to his own words.

3. But if god is everything, and people kill in the name of god
Doesn't that make god the killer by proxy? That is, humans who kill do so by justifying that killing 'in the name of god'. That's proxy by definition.

And if 'god' disapproved, why did he/she/it allow such a thing to happen? And if he did not disapprove, then he/she/it accepts the proxy under which the killing is done.

No?

5. You make it sound like God cares one way or the other...
I don't think God does, care that is, at least not in this case.

God is not the being who is supposed to stop the slaughter. That is up to us.

I sort of hope though that God is like a stern parent. It seems indifferent, mean even, but we will be better people because of lessons that we learn.

9. yeah, I don't really think god cares one way or the other
At least not what we would consider caring, if there is a god.

I guess my point was that it really bothers me when humans lay the blame for their own descpicable behaviour on a higher power, and was using their 'god cares' precept to show the tragic irony of such thinking.

6. God gave humans the ability to reason
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 10:34 AM by Bluzmann57
well most of us anyway. Then he/she said "You're on your own" or something like that. See, true Christians(NOT fundies, like Falwell, etc.) believe in the ten commandents, although not neccesarily publicly displayed, and thou shalt not kill is at the top. All religions have a similar set of guidelines, so whoever kills in the name of God, including Muslims, Fundies, and all others, are just hypocritical liars. And as far as "letting it happen", why are people shooting each other? Why would a kid get run over by a car and be crippled for life? Because that's the way it is sometimes. It may not be right, but that's the way it is and we have to stop leaning on religion for all good or bad things that happen. Religion should a part of an enriching and fulfilling life, not an obsession. Thank you for letting me ramble on.

10. absolutely... I agree
We've been using that as an excuse for centuries, and it's getting old, given what we think we know these days.

4. Doctrines
How much time brain power has been wasted constructing the doctrine of a just war?

What about the doctrine of a just peace?

7. Dear god, Hope you got the letter,And I pray you can make it better ......
Dear god,
Hope you got the letter,
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I don’t mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
’cause they don’t get enough to eat

From god,
I can’t believe in you.

Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
’cause they can’t make opinions meet,
About god,
I can’t believe in you.

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!

Dear god,
Don’t know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it ain’t and so do you,
Dear god,
I can’t believe in,
I don’t believe in,

I won’t believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
You’re always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And it’s the same the whole world ’round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
That the father, son and holy ghost,
Is just somebody’s unholy hoax,
And if you’re up there you’ll perceive,
That my heart’s here upon my sleeve.
If there’s one thing I don’t believe in...

It’s you,
Dear god.
