FOOL ME ONCE
Copyright 2004 by Andy Oglesby
By The Near Myths

To hear the mp3, go to:

http://home.nc.rr.com/clarkja

Click "CDs", then "The Near Myths", then "Fool Me Once"

G
I'm not talkin' 'bout a regular guy
D
'Cause he's never ever wrong, and he can't tell a lie
Em -------------------- C
And you're with him now, or the other guy

I'm not talkin' 'bout an honest man
Sent your son to a foreign land
Now there's blood on the ground, and on his hands

D-------------- C
"Fool me once, sh-sh-sh-shame on you
G ----------------------- D
Fool me, can't get fooled again"

Nobody's gonna get away with that
Somebody's gonna hafta pay for that
Somebody's son not coming back

Peace, Love and Music,

1. Thank you. You know how much I loved this
I understand much more about Bush* and these remarks after listening to a guest on Al Franken's show, Mark Crispin Miller, who has written a Bushism book, but with analysis. He said that Bush* is incapable of feeling empathy or compassion, so makes gaffes like "I know how hard it is to put food on your family." He cannot admit or deal with shame or embarrassment, so cannot pronounce Abu Ghraib or say "shame on me," even if it's just an "old saying." But when discussing punishment or death, he practically waxes poetic. A very screwed up guy.
:scared:

But thanks for posting this. I'll pass it on, again.:hi:

32. It's a great song!
Hey Rhiannon!

This is revRecluse; Andy's song can still be heard on Radio Enigma on The Recluse Show, as well as stuff from other DU members Gothic Sponge and Beware The Beast Man.

Andy's song indeed is great; he's gotten a great response from the listeners of my station...

That's Jim Clark's page really. He released a solo CD of poetry and Appalachian folk songs called "Buried Land" in '03. Check it out!

http://home.nc.rr.com/clarkja/CDs/bl/index.htm

It's on the Oasis label, and I suspect "Wilson" will also. So far our engineer has mixed about 6-7 of the 9 songs on the CD.

Wilson is in Eastern NC, just off I-95, about 35 miles (I'm guessing) from the Va. line. I live in Greensboro, but was there for X-Mas. My wife's sister lives there. We don't get enough snow down here to know better, so we always like it!

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

48. Thank you! I always enjoy your song and more is better!
I have a new car, so would love to play this while I'm driving. I'm familiar with Greensboro, since my grandmother retired to NC, so I spent a lot of time there. However, she lived in Black Mountain, just outside of Asheville, in the western part of the state. Lovely country, but they totally freaked out at the slightest dusting of snow! They totally shut everything down, LOL! But I envy all of you in NC, since those of us in the North Country get hit with feet of snow, not inches. *sigh* I hate winter.:-(

Thanks and let me know what's going on with this. I love your song and will pass it on to kindred spirits, and remind those who I already have made aware of it. Stay warm and drive safe.:-)

55. You're always welcome. And I wouldn't say you're dumb, more like
insane, to welcome snow and sleet. I live in serious snow country and it is a nightmare! And, if you're in the South, I pity you! My grandmother lived in the South and they had no snow removal equipment and had no idea how to drive in snow. Everything was paralyzed! But it is probably worse for those of us in the North Country! We're just expected to keep going, even if you can't see where you're going or have to crawl up the steps because they are coated with ice. I'd just prefer to hibernate until winter is over.

56. Best protest song ever, IMHO.........For What is Worth.....
Buffalo Springfield

"Something is happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear.

Stop now, what's that sound
Everybody look
What's going round.

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH:
THE STORY OF BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD
by John Einarson with Richie Furay
There's somethin' happening here,
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there,
Tellin' me I gotta beware.
I think it's time we stop,
Hey, what's that sound,
Everybody look what's going down.

- For What It's Worth, Stephen Stills, 1966

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An updated, expanded edition of "For What It's Worth: The Story of Buffalo Springfield"
will be published in early 2004 and can be ordered now at Amazon.com.
Used versions of the first edition are also available.
John Einarson's latest book, Desperados - The Roots of Country Rock chronicles the
history of Southern California country rock from its rise from an unknown form, to a
genre that spawned the best selling album of all time: The Eagles Greatest Hits.

And keep an eye out for John's next effort, a biography of The Byrd's Gene Clark, entitled
Gene Clark: Tambourine Man, to be published by Backbeat Books in the spring of 2005.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The lyrics from the Buffalo Springfield's 1967 hit For What It's Worth have come to symbolize the turbulent decade of the 1960s. Employed in virtually every documentary, television special, and feature film (including Forrest Gump and Oliver Stone's Born On The Fourth Of July) chronicling that era in America, For What It's Worth has transcended the pop charts to become an anthem, a touchstone for an entire generation. In 1967, the Buffalo Springfield captured the restless, confrontational mood of that generation railing against the establishment and went on to be revered as one of rock music's most influential groups. The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock 'N' Roll cites the band among a handful of seminal rock pioneers. A glance at rock's greatest movers and shakers of the 1970 and 80s reveals just how significant the Buffalo Springfield legacy has been: Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, Poco, Loggins and Messina, Souther, Hillman & Furay, Neil Young & Crazy Horse. All arose from the ashes of the Springfield.
Hailed as the quintessential sixties California pop group, the Buffalo Springfield

59. Well, Andy, I realize, now, that I was an idiot!
My friend visited me, tonight. I often send her things I think she'd be interested in, since she is a fellow liberal, but she only has access to a PC at work, so many things I send her just don't work for her there, like videos, though she can read and print out articles just fine.

While she was here, there were several things I wanted her to see, and I wanted her to hear your wonderful song, if she hadn't. I called up the link to the Bush* gaffe it was based on, which I thought I had posted on your thread, so she'd understand it, but I discovered that I had posted the completely wrong Bushism! In my defense, there are so many, but I know now why you didn't say anything. *sigh*

Anyway, I'm sorry. Here is the link I meant to post, the inspiration for your wonderful song. Better late than never. Shame on me.:spank:

I may have more than one version of it, but this is the one I ran across first. And I agree that Symbolman is also just the best. And I am very proud that Eric is also a member of DU. We have so many amazing and creative people here, including you. I will always be grateful that I found DU, and the people that I've encountered here, who are just the best.:-)

On that link. I'm not sure when, but there's only room for one, and we wanted to generate some more "buzz" for the CD, since we anticipate it's release in the not too distant future.

The Near Myth's might be getting our very own website soon, (instead of piggy-backing on Jim's),...I'll let you know when that happens.

Though I admit to knowing God_bush_n_cheney since I first joined DU. I may be a member of the DU Atheist/Agnostic group, but I also still wear a cross which I bought in an old church, in Soviet Georgia, Stalin's birthplace, so I promise to send up a prayer for you this very night. 107. this one
You know, I am not really sure that protest songs are what it's all about. For example; did you know that one the deck of the Titanic back in 1912, while it was sinking, everyone finally realized there was really nothing do do but wait for someone to hopefully rescue the ship, and so instead of sitting around doing nothing, they all started singing...they started singing this creepy song too...about being nearer to God...like do you see the irony there? But aside from that, they all sang songs qwhile their ship sank. Now I figuer if you were half way intelligent, you could build a raft of somekind out of material on board...you know, while everyone was singing and having a final cocktail I would have been building my raft...or how about everyone climbing off the ship and getting onto the iceberg that sank them, I mean i't not like that baby was gonna be sinking anytime soon, you know what I mean?

The point being that you guys in America are kind of like the people on the Titanic...I mean that babies goin DOWNNNNN....and singing won't really help too much.

Although some of the people on board of the Titanic drank so much alchohol before the ship sank that when they hit the water they didn't get cold at all, in fact it was very refreshing for some, and a few were picked up several hours later, not so drunk anymore, but still alive.

The moral is, singing won't help, unless you have alcholhol to go along with it. Speaking of which...

Years from now people (historians and others) are going to be asking questions,..."Didn't you know what was going on?"..."Can't you read the papers and see that Bush is selling a lie?"..."Why is everybody just going along with this farce?"..."Where's the outrage?"

Well I didn't just go along, I wrote several letters to my congressman. I wrote LTE. And I wrote this damn song and put it on a CD. So after I'm gone, when people start asking these questions, they will know that Liberal Andy knew what was going on, he read the papers, he didn't just go along. I tried to tell everybody, it just took way too long to sink in I guess.

Sorry that I've been absent. I've been away, but I'm back now. :-)

And I totally agree with your post. Years from now, history is going to judge this corrupt administration and will definitely judge the rest of us. You have absolutely done your part...:pals:
