Call to CODEPINK Action

CODEPINK Orlando is participating in an action to Give Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood a Pink Slip. We intend to do this soon to draw national attention to the situation in FL - again. To really make an impact, we need lots of help.

You all know what a fiasco the 2000 election was in Florida. Nobel Peace Laureat Jimmy Carter recently said that things are no better in Florida now than they were in 2000. Former President Carter said he is often asked why he doesn't go to Florida to oversee the elections. His reason is that for the Carter Center to agree to oversee democratic elections several criterea must be in place. One of those criteria is that the election must be overseen by a non-partisan person or committee. You probably remember Katherine Harris who oversaw the 2000 election while working as Florida co-chair of the Bush/Cheney campaign. She has been replaced by Glenda Hood a republican appointed by Governor Jeb Bush who is showing herself to be just as dedicated to the Bush family as Harris was.

CODEPINK was formed in 2002 prior to the beginning of the war in Iraq. The name is a play on the fear codes created by the Bush Administration. One of the creative actions CODEPINK takes is to give "Pink Slips" to those officials not fostering peace and social justice in the world. Here is the plan...On October 19 CODEPINK will deliver as many pink slips as we can possibly collect. The slips will be signed and hand delivered with all the fanfare CODEPINK can generate - which is lots. Our hope is to get the attention of national press and this will be more likely if we have pink slips from all over America. The more the better. While we are in Florida the rest of the country has a vested interest in making sure the Florida election is fair.

HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO
1) Create Pink Slips using the verbage below or write your own. Many of our slips are 8 1/2x 11 sheets split 3 ways.
2) Print multiple copies on pink paper.
3) Get your like-minded friends, family and co-workers to sign the sheets.
4) Priority mail the sheets by October 14 to: S. Heitker, 4630 South Kirkman Road #723, Orlando FL 32811
5) Share this e-mail with others who might also want to "Give Glenda a Pink Slip".
