Take Peace and No Blood for Oil Signs to Every Kerry and Edwards event!
In the last day of the Democratic Convention, I was happy to hear Kerry making some implied comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam. Since he was a leading member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War in the '70's, this comparison indicates that he is really re-thinking his position on the Iraq War. He also said he would lead us away from dependence on Middle Eastern oil--which certainly would make a peaceful U.S. foreign policy more feasible.

A majority of Americans now say Iraq wasn't worth it. Of course, a majority of Democrats always were against it. Kerry and Edwards need to be constantly gently reminded of this fact. Cheer for all Kerry's helpful domestic policy statements but keep your opposition to an imperial militarist foreign policy in his face. American's don't have much heart for sustained military imperialism, once they begin to figure out the real deal. They won't pay that price in blood for oil, and Kerry needs to be aware of this.

Right now, college students are begining to organize against the draft which continuing the disasterous occupation of Iraq will soon require. History repeats itself...it was Kerry who asked in the '70's "How do you ask a man to be the last to die for a mistake?"

1. Great reminder!
The antiwar movement should not be lulled into a false sense of security. We have to keep Kerry aware that we oppose this atrocity.

Gee, you think the centrists and swing voters will run from all dem dang hippies?

Nowdays we have ex-hippies in positions like Chief of Police and Chairman of the Board and a bit of hippy-ism is usually accepted as an innocuous part of the American cultural spectrum. But many of these people didn't realize how issues and predicaments can return.

Kerry and Edwards have a "Great Society" vision behind their domestic policy like President Johnson did. Let's do our bit so they don't ruin this noble project by stubbornly sticking with a doomed war policy like Johnson did!

I think Michael Moore is right that most of the uncommitted votes out there are in the hands of alienated citizens who haven't trusted either major party, and most of these people just didn't vote in the last two elections. But now the voter registration is already up this year and many people feel that something has gone wrong, and we need to try to do something about it. These are some people who we definately need to mobilize and involve. And groups of idealistic college students are out registering recent immigrants who have achieved citizenships...I'd be out there with 'em if I knew enough Spanish to help. :)

4. I say they should be shown we trust them and their course of action
because I know Kerry is not a warmonger and he should have as much room as he needs from us to compete aggressively with the Bush machine and whatever incidents may arise.

You want us to approach two men competing on a tightrope and light fires under the feet of the one we prefer win, yet our action will guarantee he loses.

How dumb so you think most of us are?

Hold his feet to the fire AFTER he wins, not while he's on the tightrope.

5. You will be saying the same thing next year
telling us to shut up lest we undermine Kerry's legislative agenda with our impatience about the war.

No dice!

Just as we opposed the Vietnam War, our opposition to the Iraq War is non-negotiable!
