God is not a Republican or Democrat

http://go.sojo.net/campaign/takebackourfaith

Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and others on the Religious Right
claim that God has taken a side in this election, and that
Christians should only vote for George W. Bush. The Bush-Cheney
campaign even told volunteers it was their "duty" to make church
directories available to the campaign.

"It is the responsibility of...every evangelical Christian
...to get serious about re-electing President Bush."
- Jerry Falwell, The New York Times, July 16, 2004

How has the love of Jesus, the Prince of Peace - and his good
news to the poor - been distorted by the pro-war, pro-rich
political agenda of the Religious Right? Our faith has been
hijacked, and it's time to take it back!

With your help, Sojourners will also place a full-page
advertisement in The New York Times, followed by local newspaper
and online ads across the United States.

Please forward this e-mail to your family and friends. Tell
faithful citizens to make their voices heard.

Sign the petition, support the campaign, and spread the word.
Together we can take back our faith!

4. These people actually believe that he has
The worship leader (not the minister) at our church has repeatedly pushed a political agenda from the alter. The church cheered when the announcement of Saddam's capture.
Our teen daughter was told by a youth leader that Democrats do not make good Christians, she came home and applied a Kerry bumper sticker to her car.
I have been confronted several times about my political beliefs. I was happy to find the post a couple of weeks back about the Christan President, I printed it out and gave to one of the people who kept bringing it up on Sundays.
I had a discussion with a far right winger about the US being the promised land, he felt that America was God's chosen people. I could not get through his head that all people were God's people.
What has happened is that Jerry Falwell and the Religious Right have hijacked Christianity, all under the guise that Liberals are bad and that only the conservatives will do anything about abortion, with they will never do. It would cut the chord they have around the right to lifers necks.

7. I'm sorry about your place of worship
I count my blessings all the time that I attend
a church that believes in civil rights for all
people, that women are in control of their own
reproductive systems, thus in charge of their
lives and that we are here to co-create God's
work.

Find another place of worship or try changing
things from within.

5. Last I heard, God was a member of
the Pansexual Peace Party. But he may have moved on... I'm not sure.

6. Throwing precepts and caution to the winds
The fallen churches. If some, from the pulpits and seminaries on down suggest compromising principles of peace, legality(vote fraud, anti-democracy) and embracing methodologies of the World and tyranny can be justified because the End Times throws away the rule book, then they just joined a long line of fallen Christians on the power gambit. The Throne of Hell.

In essence no words of Christ, no principles, no spirit of compassion or justice will stand in their way. They have taken a bloody shortcut to triumph, presuming(another sin) that this rather dangerous anticipation will be covered by the Fundamentalist equivalent of a plenary indulgence(for you Catholics out there). Psalm singing crusaders, massacring, pillaging with great acts of enthusiastic devotion, a Divine permissiveness, self-granted, totally the opposite of the freedom Christ intended to deliver.

After that ALL is possible. Pretty darn close to the "unforgivable sin" which is merely derailing oneself from ever recognizing truth while calling good evil and evil good.
