Field will thin Feb. 4, Dem leader McAuliffe says
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3696353/

Once the final votes are counted in the Feb. 3 Democratic primaries, the field of nine presidential candidates will thin out considerably, the Democratic Party chairman said Friday.

“We’ll be down to three or four candidates on the morning of Feb. 4,” Terry McAuliffe said during an interview with Associated Press reporters and editors. “If candidates haven’t won one of those nine contests, people should assess their candidacies.”

The nine contests would be the Iowa caucuses Jan. 19, New Hampshire primary Jan. 27 and contests in seven states Feb. 3. McAuliffe suggested that party leaders and supporters would deliver the painful truth to those who don’t have a shot at the party’s nomination, urging them to quit the race.

McAuliffe said he expects the front-loaded primary calendar to produce a nominee by March 10, and the DNC will quickly air ads in support of the candidate.

1. Are Terry and Al working together after all?
Everyone says McAuliffe and Gore are on different sides of this "debate" but they both seem hell-bent on the same result: a "thinning" of the field. DAMN -- go Dennis, Carol and Al!!!!

2. Oooohhh! Witness the mysterious power of Terry the Wise!!
Gee, after the big two and the next seven on Feb 3, ya THINK we might see a thinning of the field?

My prediction: Play Powerball. The winning numbers will all consist of groups of zero through nine (possibly 2 of these numbers grouped together).

For a completely mercenary reason, I want the field to stay just as it is...as long as multiple targets exist, the Repubs will have a harder time tailoring their attacks.

4. I thought this was pretty arrogant when I first heard it.
Hearing it again doesn't make it sound any better.

So the DNC is echoing Gore's line, though Terry at least allows that there might be one or two other candidates who the DNC might deign to allow to continue to run.

Hey, if someone is on the ballot, they're running. Terry and the Pirates will just have to live with that, as inconvenient to their long term planning as it might be.

5. Gotta say I have problem with the subject line..........
McAuliffe.....Dem leader?????? :puke:

He is no more a "Dem leader" than Tommy Daschle.

We need some real leaders. Those two ain't it.

6. Leaders? NO WAY!!
Gore and McAuliffe are leaders in the mold of Gen. Custer.

Let's review history...

Who lost the 2000 election with a pathetic campaign?
Answer: Gore and McAuliffe

Who lost the 2002 midterm elections?
McAuliffe and Gore (Gore disappeared from the scene in 2003)

Now they are "leading" this party? Unfortunately straight to the wood shed. :wtf:

7. And Terry M has been right how many times lately?
Right. This coming from the guy who couldn't find a decent candidate with a flashlight and a big bag of corporate cash.

McAulife is still part of the problem. I for one will be very pleased when they send his toadying ass packing. :eyes:
