Mike Miles - Democrat for US Senate of Colorado
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 10:49 AM by HawkeyeX

Dear friend,

The time is now

There comes a time when men and women of courage must stand fast. Now is the time for us to stand fast against the Halliburtons and Bechtels of the world, against the pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, and the corporations that exert inordinate influence on our nation’s policies at the expense of its citizens. Now is the time to take our country back from the ideologues who want to control our libraries, our schools, our thoughts. Now is the time to reclaim our country from the far right conservatives who are so arrogant in their patriotism that they have forgotten that this country was built on the blood and toil of all of its citizens.

My name is Mike Miles, and I am asking you to help me win the U.S. Senate seat from Ben Campbell. I am running because a shadow has fallen on our country and we are losing our democracy by yards. I am not fighting for any one cause or issue; I’m fighting for the spirit of a nation.

Experience that matters for Colorado

I have the education, military and foreign policy experience Colorado needs in the U.S. Senate. I don’t have a pony tail or drive a motorcycle, but I do have a meaningful background most Coloradoans can relate to, and I have a message that can beat Ben Campbell. The son of an African American soldier and a Japanese mother, I grew up poor with seven siblings. I have benefited from the promise of America that I now see eroding. And as a West Point graduate, Army Ranger, Diplomat to Poland and Russia, and a public school teacher and principal, I have the experience that will help me represent the interests of all Coloradoans in the U.S. Senate on domestic and foreign policy matters. I have been fighting for this country my entire life.

Like Howard Dean’s team, my team and I have been running an unprecedented grassroots effort in Colorado. Two and a half years ago, when I announced that I was running for the U.S. Senate, the political insiders gave me zero chance of winning the Democratic nomination. The Party officials in Washington told me I wouldn’t get their support because I did not have the “two-million dollar entry fee.”

A winning grassroots campaign

My team and I did not listen to them. We went around the naysayers and made our case to the people. My supporters and I have been to most of the counties in Colorado. I have over 750 active volunteers across the state, a number growing daily. I have spoken at over 240 events to standing ovations. Now, because of our grassroots efforts, we have made true believers out of the overwhelming majority of Democratic Party activists across the state, and our team is set to capture the nomination.

Like Dean, my team and candidacy has attracted thousands of supporters who are new to the political process – Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters alike. They are tired of politics as usual and find in my candidacy a message of hope, the power of conviction, and a gladiator for democracy.

Be the Change!

Please join me and my team as we fight for ordinary Coloradoans and for democracy. I’m asking you to join our campaign to help get our message out to voters in your community.

Defeating Campbell will take money to spread the message. We need $100 from 50,000 Coloradoans to win this race. I know that that is a lot of money for most people, but the stakes have never been higher and, without exaggeration, the state of the union hangs in the balance. Please contribute what you can. Be the change!

Our time is now

There comes a time when men and women of courage must stand fast. That time is upon us. Somewhere out there, there is an America waiting for us. And it’s not a new America; it’s an old one that has lost its way. It’s an America that promises all citizens – not just political cronies or special interests – the opportunity for a good education, access to decent and affordable health care, a job with a living wage, human rights for all, clean air and water. It’s an America that speaks to our highest aspirations -- that speak to compassion over greed, effort over pedigree, service over wealth, and the common good above all.

Our time is now. Join a team that is passionate, serious, and defying the odds. Be the change!

4. He could be another Wellstone
Or at least that's what some others feel. He's still a longshot, but he has the potential to run a grassroots campaign and pull a Wellstone on Campbell, the same way that Wellstone came from nowhere to beat Boschwitz

5. IMHO, he would do better to only mention Dean once...IMHO
He wants to appeal to all sorts of Democrats, as well as Colorado Greens,,,,not just Deanocrats...well, I like it so far, except for the above snide remark or fair criticism or whatever ya wanna call it.
