Congressman Pete Stark tosses his weight behind Dean
Congressman says candidate would promote diplomacy and 'multinational collaboration'

By STAFF REPORTS

Rep. Pete Stark, D-Fremont, endorsed former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean on Wednesday for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"Howard Dean is committed to negotiating peace throughout the world. He will once again remind Americans and the rest of the world that peace and prosperity can be achieved through active diplomacy and multinational collaboration," said Stark, who is serving his 16th two-year term and is the ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee.

He also praised Dean's stances on health care, environmental protection, education, the economy and human rights.

Stark -- whose district stretches from Fremont to Alameda and parts of Oakland as well as eastward to parts of Pleasanton -- joins California delegation members Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose; Loretta Sanchez, D-Santa Ana, and Bob Filner, D-San Diego, in backing Dean.
