Renzi beating Babbit in poll, 49-38 percent

Freshman Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.) has a double-digit lead over Democratic challenger Paul Babbitt, according to a recent telephone poll conducted by Northern Arizona University.

Forty-nine percent of voters would reelect Renzi and 38 percent would vote for Babbitt if the election were held today, according to a survey of 611 likely voters in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.

“There is a lot we have been able to accomplish,” Renzi said in a statement.

“However, our work is far from complete, and I remain committed to working hard for the people of rural Arizona.”

1. That, is bad news. This district is filled with gun nuts and right-

wingers, and ALL of the media in the region are right-wing, so it's really hard for a Dem to get elected. Tons of right-wing retirees have moved to the region too, escaping the desert heat, but bringing their fascist politics with them. This sucks.

but I thought this one would be a little closer. Babbit has a good name and electoral base and Renzi is well, a kook. If he's not beaten this time he might be there a while...a shame as this is a tossup district.
