2. If Kerry picks Max Cleland as his running mate; I'll support him......
As weak and bankrupt as Chimpy is, it will still take something extraordinary to beat the BFEE. This picture is extraordinay, let's hope Kerry can start doing something in the here and now as extraordinary as in his storied past.

4. Don't forget Kerry led the fight against Seabrook AND BCCI
Besides working with Lennon in helping to lead the anti-Vietnam War movement, Kerry went on to lead the fight against Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant and then as a new Senator investigated and CLOSED the BCCI Bank run by W's Harken business partner and Osama brother-in-law Bin Mahfouz (who loaned Harken $20 million in an Enron-style pump and dump for Bush in 1986). Not to mention investigating Iran-Contra. And he wants to achieve a 20% renewable energy base by 2020! If you want progressive leadership, there it is.

That's why W is most worried about Kerry. He already put his business partner Mahfouz under house arrest and knows that Kerry must know that SALEM BIN LADEN -- the BROTHER OF OSAMA BIN LADEN HIMSELF -- was W's FIRST BUSINESS PARTNER in Arbusto, before Harken (through James Bath). Imagine Kerry bringing up Salem Bin Laden and Mahfouz at a debate with George W. Then --

IMAGINE PRESIDENT KERRY!!

3. Is it real though?
A couple of days ago some photoshop-savvy DUers picked it apart pretty good. I hope it is real, it's a neat pic, but they seemed pretty sure it wasn't.

5. Yes it's real
and this is by no means a Kerry slam, but can you imagine voting for someone because they had their picture taken with someone you idolize.
Absurd reasoning, or to put it more precisely, no reasoning whatsoever.

8. No reasoning whatever, true...
but there's no telling what a damned powerful emotional reaction can do. I don't have strong feelings about Kerry one way or the other, but Lennon was my idol when I was 10 years old. I can see this picture resonating powerfully with my generation.

9. Kerry worked TOGETHER with Lennon Against the War
That's why this picture is so meaningful to people. This looks like an anti-war rally, where they were no doubt working on that day TOGETHER toward the same cause.

Plus the look in Kerry's eye's says a lot I think. This is not aloofness.

7. This picture is VERY REAL
It's actually on Kerry's Senate site at

http://kerry.senate.gov/high/press_photos_R0020.html

Unless you think Kerry would fake this himself. It looks like an anti-war rally in the early 1970s.

You think it's fake because it shows the true Kerry, working with John Lennon for peace--and that worries you.

There's more to Kerry than most people know and this picture says it all.

37. It's from a big anti-war rally in New York City.
Kerry, as a leader from the VVAW spoke briefly, then introduced Lennon.

The photo is genuine. It's posted on Kerry's official Senate homepage.

18. Imagine John Lennon SUPPORTING Chimpy by voting FOR the war
resolution. Imagine Kerry vehemently denouncing the POSSIBILITY of bombing the Iraqi people. Imagine John Lennon with WELLSTONE opposing the war resolution. Imagine a STRONG principled senator denouncing Bush and demanding investigations and impeachment. Imagine a PICTURE of all the dead soldiers, children, and innocents of this war because of a gutless American congress unwilling to challenge the Bush thugs. Imagine.

26. "It's easy to second-guess the commander-in-chief
at a time of war. I choose not to do that." Howard Dean on MTP, July 2002. Russert asked him about Gore and Kerry's harsh criticisms of Bush's military strategy. Dean chose to support Bush over the Dem critics.

Imagine if all the Dems had supported Kerry and Gore back then...Bush wouldn't have had the public support for his military ventures.

29. Admittedly , if Kerry had Dean's backing in 2002 or hell, even now, he'd
have something to be proud of. 'Harsh critics'???? 'Here's my vote Chimpy..do what u want.' Harsh?? 'Laughable' is more like it.

If ALL Kerry backers would have denounced his stance for the war resolution and demanded accountability then he'd (1) not voted for it and (2) have a HUGE political advantage now. Neither occurred.

31. polpilot...question...
Do you think NO Democrat should have negotiated for their vote with Bush to get him to the UN, put inspectors back in, or present evidence to the UN?

Do you want to go on record as saying we would be better off today if Bush had his war WITHOUT any of those matters negotiated? Would Bush be in any trouble today if he hadn't felt forced to present evidence?

34. Hi BLM...hardly call it 'negogiating' for their vote. What exactly did
Kerry receive for his 'war' vote. It will be very interesting to hear the rewards of this 'pro-war' vote by Kerry. The UN argument is child-like as the results of the pro-war vote are already in.

The RESULTS, as all knew would be, was an atrocious, illegal, murderous war with the inevitable consequences. A very loud vocal opposition to the war resolution was the heroic, humane required response. Mr. Kerry chose the capitulation route. Bush backer.

35. The UN, inspectors and presentation of evidence
to the UN doesn't MATTER to you? Do you KNOW how senate negotiations work? Certain Dems work for the better deal.

Do you want to go on record to say that Dean would have refused to act on the Dems behalf and wouldn't have negotiated at all?

Was Dean's support of Biden-Lugar authorization for military action in Iraq "very loud vocal opposition to the war resolution" in your view? Hahah.

38. BLM, list what Kerry received for promoting the war by giving his vote/
consent to Chimpy. Much of the world was awakened by the picture of the maimed Iraqi child. Few are impressed by the posting of 'celebrity ' pics on Kerry's own Senator Site.

Kerry obviously meets your standard of effective representation. You are 'captivated' by his deeds and wish for a Kerry presidency. Accept that his level of representation does not meet everyone's standards and that he is judged as ineffective or inadequate by some.

From the Boston Globe:

Kerry was in the middle of much that was going on at the turn of the decade, leading peace rallies with the likes of John Lennon and Peter, Paul and Mary.

16. So was the story...
...in the NY Post yesterday true?

"July 11, 2003 -- Sen. John Kerry is distributing fliers in New York with a 30-year-old photo of him and Beatle John Lennon to woo anti-war presidential voters as he competes with rival Howard Dean in blasting President Bush on Iraq.

The campaign leaflet featuring the 1971 Lennon photo surfaced yesterday as Kerry was holding a Washington press conference to claim Bush must "tell the truth" about Iraq.

Kerry voted "yes" on the Iraq war last fall, but is now outspoken in criticizing the conduct of the war as he seeks to counter the anti-war appeal that has sent Dean surging toward the top of the Democratic pack.

A spokesman for Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, said she was traveling and couldn't be reached for comment about the political use of a photo of her late husband.

A Kerry spokesman said he saw no need to seek Ono's permission to use the photo, which was snapped by a Kerry pal and is a cherished memento in his office."

19. This picture is from a 1971 anti-war rally in New York
Kerry has it hanging in his Senate office! Lennon INTRODUCED Kerry at the rally as an important anti-war leader. Kerry had turned around the U.S. Senate on Vietnam by testifying on April 22 with these words:

"How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"
