1. huh???
I saw three ads for Iowa, but didn't waste time watching them. This is a well known link showing Kerry's major endorsements, and Hollings' name isn't in the list.

2. Seconded
I have an article from Roll Call dated 14 April 2003 that says Hollings is staying neutral. I do think Hollings is a closet Kerry supporter, but the link posted doesn't show that he's come out and made an endorsement.

4. The best way to tell is look at the FEC reports...
Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 01:24 PM by burr
If Hollings has contributed the maximum Kerry's campaign, and token amounts to other campaigns then he is in Kerry's camp. This is how it usually worked on the congressional campaigns I worked on. If you are an elected office holder, it is seen as politically damaging to you, your supporters, and your state to make a public endorsement this early. So this is the way office holders will back primary candidates they like.

8. Well, sorta
I mean, these are kinda like character references, not really endorsements.

Does, LCV, CDF, etc even get involved in primaries?

9. Not as an organization.
These are personal endorsements. Like, when Kweisi Mfume said he'd love to see Kerry as the nominee, he was speaking for himself and not as the head of the NAACP.

12. I agree....
this is why we didn't see Hollings at Kerry's announcement in South Carolina.

Let me also give Kerry my personal endorsement and all my love, but not necessarily my vote!

14. That's not the reason, but you're welcome to think that.
I think I know SC a little bit better than most.

And I did not mean personal the way YOU are using it. I mean personal as opposed to their organization's endorsement because those organizations don't DO political endorsements. The fact that their leaders personally endorse Kerry does speak volumes.

19. When Hollings starts to campaign for Kerry in N.H. in a Kerry T-shirt...
and appears on the trail with Kerry in a high profile manner, but not for the other candidates, then I will buy this. I will be convinced when he starts twisting arms and pitching for Kerry in South Carolina.

24. I'm not buying, so not a problem...
Hollings spoke nicely about Kerry knowing the value of the dollar along with other compliments. I never heard him say "I support Kerry or please back him, he's my man."

When Holling means something, he is very direct. If he felt strongly about Kerry, he would never avoid the point which was...reasons he supports Kerry for President. Not just give reasons that he thinks Kerry is a good guy!

25. Look at the header, it says WHY I SUPPORT JOHN KERRY
Hollings wouldn't have allowed his statement to be used on a campaign website and Kerry wouldn't have used it if Hollings wasn't supporting him.

Geez....I suppose everyone on their is just saying nice things?

With Holling goes South Carolina.

Kerry is the only Democratic candidate that Holings has been talking up for the last year.

and Inez Tenenbaum's husband is a supporter. Word is that internal polls here show others do best with Kerry at the top of the ticket.

11. An endorsement is something specific
I think we should try to use words correctly. You could have chosen praise, accolades, alot of words. But if they haven't officially endorsed, I would prefer the word not be used. Just me.

13. He's on audio saying WHY he supports Kerry
on Kerry's WEBSITE, along eith his photo. Hollings must have authorized it or it wouldn't be there. Is saying you support someone on their campaign website somehow unofficial?

15. Endorsement
It isn't just nice words somebody says. It means something specific and it is misleading to say Fritz endorsed Kerry. It didn't happen, at least not yet.

23. Every pollster and political consultant has been waiting
For Holling to support SOMEONE though it has always been suspected that it would be Kerry.

The reason is that they know that whoever Holling supports will end up carrying South Carolina Democrats.
