Dean has already beaten Clinton's quarterly fundraising record
You are Unstoppable

One week ago, Howard Dean sent each of you an email and asked you to do whatever you could do to make this the September to Remember-- to give whatever amount you could afford to change the way politics is done in our country-- to put an end the politics of the past and the gotcha game of the Washington establishment.

On that day, we knew that you had already contributed an amazing $9.7 million for the quarter, and we asked you to do whatever you could to help make history by contributing an additional $5 million in ten days.

Thousands have responded to our call-- by contributing on the Internet, over the phone-- by mailing in checks-- and by going to events and houseparties in their city and town. And the result has been amazing.

You have made history-- already you have broken Bill Clinton's record of $10.3 million-- the most ever raised by a Democrat in a single quarter.

And because the money is coming in from everywhere-- not just over the net-- we're trying to get a handle on how much you have raised already. But we know that you have already contributed at least $12.5 million this quarter.

Not everything is on the bats yet. We'll be adding everything up through the night and tomorrow morning we'll adjust the bats and go from $12.5 or wherever the exact amount is, and we'll make our final 3 day push to make this the September to Remember-- the month when we tell the establishment that we are here to stay and that no one is going to stop the grassroots from playing the decisive role in this election.

The most amazing thing is not that we broke Bill Clinton's record but how we did it-- through small donations, through everyone doing something over the net or the phone or the mail. Tomorrow we will post the amount we're at and our goal and make a final push to the end.

So keep it going. Watch Face the Nation tomorrow, come back to the blog, and keep spreading the word that the next 3 days will be the time when we don't just make history-- we change it.

1. notice, trippi says AT LEAST 12.5 million
leading me to believe it is probably a bit more than that. when the bat shows the quarterly total tomorrow, the thing is going to take off and get us to 15 million.

wow - truly inspiring to see this unforld.

2. Add the bat to 12.5 and you'll be close to the number.
The campaign had 12.5 a week ago.

3. Great News
Just today, Dean has spoke out on Wilsons wife being outed, a plan for home care of elderly, with a tax deduction if you buy long term insurance in case you have to go in a home, and the fact that jobs come before a balanced budget if he is elected President. Say what you want about Dean, but folks, he is doing something, not just talking about it. No one should wonder why he is the money raising champ as these are just more reasons why. I hope the rest of our fine candidates see fit to join in on the Wilson thing.

8. Don't Forget the "Texas Rangers"
Huge story in Iowa and New Hampshire. Dean chartered four aircraft (three for Iowa, one for New Hampshire) to bring circa 500 Dean Texans up to go door-to-door, telling voters why Bush needs to be defeated and why Howard Dean is the man to do it.

Brilliant. Abso-F'in-loot-ly brilliant.

9. And what I'd like to say about Dean is that I am so proud of him...
And am really enthusiastic about the Meetup on Wed. where I can talk in person to some potential Dean Supporters and those who have already committed their assistance.

10. I'll go for 20m.
They haven't even started opening the mail yet. Anybody want to help?

Hey, everybody, check out my luck: One of the volunteers I coordinate here in Charlottesville, VA, called me Thursday. She's good friends with Nicco Mele, and he had an idea that would involve all our local grassroots people. It turns out that ALL of the checks sent to the Dean campaign are processed here--in an office two blocks from my house. They had 10,000 unopened letters with contributions, and there was no way the regular staff could open and count them all. So now we're lining up as many as 10 volunteers at a time to open the letters and process the checks, starting 5 PM Monday and going 9 AM to 11 PM Tuesday through Thursday. In other words, we're going to learn firsthand just how much the good doctor has been sent through the mail.

We'll open as many as we can by 11 PM Tuesday, helping increase the amount Gov. Dean will be announcing at his LA rally. But every letter postmarked September 30 still counts toward the third quarter mark. That's why we'll still be counting on Thursday the 2nd.

If anyone wants to help with this effort, please email me. You can also find this on the Dean Events page (search by the 22901 zip code). We've been doing our own thing for Dean all summer, and now we're primed to help with this great job!

25. lets say he "only" raises 12.5 million
and I think it will be more, but for the sake of arguement it is $12.5 million. That is five million more than he did in the second quarter and it breaks an incumbent Democratic president's record (Clinton in 1995) and it will far surpass the $5-6 million that Kerry is expected to raise in the entire quarter. And it will be from relatively small average contributions.

7. OK, Just Some More Ways This Feat is Incredible...
1. Bill Clinton was widely praised (and reviled) for being the most effective Democratic fundraiser, ever.

2. Bill Clinton was a sitting president running for re-election when he raised $10.3 million in one 1995 quarter.

3. Bill Clinton could tap into the entire pool of Democratic establishment big money.

4. The "Gingrich Revolution" was already in the history books, with the 1994 Republican takeover, so Clinton also had a fierce Republican power grab to run against.

5. Bill Clinton ran unopposed for renomination in 1995. Dean is competing against nine other Democrats.

Incredible. I'm still awed and inspired by all that we can do together. Tearing up a little, actually. Thank you, everybody. You're all most excellent -- all 27,178 of you (and counting). (I deducted one from the current total number of donors. That's me. :-))

11. speaking of all ten democrats, when you add up all their numbers
for the quarter, I wonder if it will exceed Bush's fundraising for the quarter.

17. No. :-(
Bush will have plenty of fat cat money. When you're doling out no-bid cost-plus contracts and blowing through a half trillion dollar deficit, you've got a lot of rich corporate cronies who eagerly pay commissions.

boys and girls are dying in Iraq! When bush gets "fired" in 2004..I wish there was a way we could Fire the media, too! :kick:

12. Clearly Trippi took the unusual step of revealing these numbers
because he knows teh $5 mil goal is unreachable and he doesn't want fickle supporters to be discouraged (not that any of you die-hards would ever be discouraged). This is some clever spin but it doens't cover up the fact that they didn't meet their goal.

Trippi has been bragging for the last month that the $10 million goal would be beatable. Most pundits assumed they had already broken it if they were talking about it. This is not in itself news. They shoul d have never bragged about the money because it raised expectations. Most people expected Dean to raise between $15-20 million.

While $12-14 million is spectacular it means that Kerry will remina coimpetitve as he started the quarter with $6 million more in the bank and has spent far less this quarter on TV ads and so forth. My bet is Dean and Kerry will be about the same in terms of money in the bank.

18. How 'Bout Waiting Until End of Quarter, OK?
If it's not $5M, it'll be close. Let's just watch.

By the way, there were two goals for the quarter, the other more important: 450,000 registered Deaniacs. That goal will be met perhaps as early as tomorrow.

20. Good lord.
Can't you find anything positive to say about Dean and the thousands of Americans who support him?

No, I suppose I know the answer to that...

Good for Kerry for raising what contributors have given him. I truly mean that. If he gets the nomination I'll line up right behind him and work my ass off for him.

I wish once in a great while some of you Kerry supporters would express the same sentiments about Dean. I understand acrimonious campaign struggles go back as far as the Republic has been around, but this is one of those times in our history that the Republic is truly in jeopardy of being totally destroyed by the likes of BushCo.

I wish Dean supporters would ease up on Kerry and I sure as hell wish I'd see the same from Kerry supporters on Dean.

We're all in this together, you know, and one way or the other, we're all going to eventually have to work together to beat Bush.

Let's all try to keep that in mind. Wishful thinking, I know, but I just have to say it.
