NY Times: "Kerry...drew the best reception"
"A lot of people have asked me if we can have a president who doesn't have a prostate. Well, I answer them, we've had a lot of Republican presidents who didn't have a heart."
-J. Kerry

Unlike others, this guy has great new applause lines every day. Go Kerry!

From the NY Times:

Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, for one, promised to take the fight on national security to Mr. Bush.

"We need to go right at him," Mr. Kerry said. "Remember, they thought that was their strong suit. They can't find Osama bin Laden. They can't find Saddam Hussein. They can't even find a leaker in the White House."

Mr. Kerry cited a Republican aide's remark that the administration's strategy was to "slime and defend," by tarring Joseph C. Wilson IV, a former American official in Iraq whose wife was disclosed to be an intelligence officer after he had accused the administration of twisting intelligence information to make its case for war.

"Mr. President, it's time to come clean," Mr. Kerry said. "Slime is not a way to restore honor and integrity to the White House."

Three times, he said he had stood with "the Democratic wing of the Democratic party" to fight off attacks on Medicare, turning one of Dr. Dean's best-known campaign lines against him for having called Medicare a disaster in 1993.

Mr. Kerry took aim, too, at General Clark, a fellow Vietnam War hero who has captured much attention since entering the race two weeks ago. "I am proud that I stood against Richard Nixon, not with him," he said. "I know what it's like to be spied on by the government, because that's what they did to me when I came back and stood up against the war."

1. May I present the rest of your subject line which you have in quotes?
"The most cutting remarks about other Democrats came from Mr. Kerry, who also drew the best reception, partly because he spoke last, after dozens of his supporters had taken the seats of people who had left....."

I have the tape, and I would differ with the article who got the best reception. I doubt they would listen, do you think?

2. I was there
He was the only candidate with supporters on the floor. All the others were on the balconies, but the DNC couldn't make a straight faced argument that they couldn't come down due to Member privledges. During the convention, Dean, Edwards, Lieberman and Clark had the best receptions, although Lieberman took people from local Jewish centers and Edwards put a lot of DC-based staffers together with their friends. Edwards and Lieberman also gave t-shirts to their supporters, like they needed encouragement.

3. Also
John Kerry was giving out boxes of Boston Baked Beans. One catch though, they were "Product of Canada". Nice job for supporting American companies and workers!

5. As a TV viewer, here is my perception.
I have watched it in parts, when I have time. From what I have seen, there is no doubt that Dean's reception was huge. I was surprised, as I was not sure how he would play to the DNC. He did well, as did the others.

He got many standing ovations. Loud applause, not just from those holding signs, but others.

Did I pick up on this ok? I was really very impressed.

7. I most definitely agree MF. I listened to all of them & Dean
got the most applause. Don't get me wrong, they all did VERY well, but I purposely looked to see what kind of reception he would get and was very surprised. How many times did he get a standing "0?"

12. Lieberman got the most applause
Clark got the most laughs - with Kerry coming in second - go listen again.

14. No, Lieberman did not.
:hi:

I don't really care, but that is just not a true statement.

6. And DJ, Dean got huge applause for new and old lines.
And I had heard some of Kerry's before, too. You know, I just took all you Kerry supporters off ignore, thinking it was better. This was not an attack on Dean per se, but it was most certainly well-spun!!

Ah, come on!

9. Well, its true and I didn't name names. I was thinking about Gep
and his "miserable failure" line. Oh, but you all are so sensitive. Get over yourselves.

8. God help us if Kerry gets a good reception-you all have to cry foul
Geez! Let the guy enjoy the spotlight for once. God knows your guy has. He gave a great speech. Defined himself and his campaign in clear terms. Also, he reminded people that he has been fighting for "the democratic wing of the democratic party" for the last 35 years.

11. Kerry did do a good job as well.
I happen to like Kerry, and also a couple of others. Just don't spin your subject lines, and quit using the "get over yourselves" line.

15. Check the video.

All I ask is that you count the empty seats during the respective speeches. The person with the least empty seats wins.

Waiting eagerly for your response!

16. Yes, do check the video.
And instead of counting butts in the seats, listen to what the candidates have to say.

18. Kerry was last so it's an unfair comparison
Unlike us, those people have jobs. Kerry did get the most coverage from the NY Times on his speech though and that's what really matters.
