2 more Az. lawmakers switch endorsements from Lieberman to Kerry
Arizona Rep. Amanda Aguirre and Rep. Ernest Bustamante Switch Their Endorsement to John Kerry

October  22,  2003

PHOENIX –
Arizona House Rep. Amanda Aguirre of Yuma County and Rep. Ernest Bustamante of Pinal County today switched their endorsement to John Kerry for President. Both previously supported Joseph Lieberman.

“At the debate in Phoenix, John Kerry outshone everyone on stage. He demonstrated a genuine understanding of sky-rocketing health care costs and of the need for immigration reform,” said State House Rep. Amanda Aguirre. “These problems face Arizonans today. John Kerry has the best plan to provide affordable health care and he is personally committed to working with President Fox to resolve our border concerns.”

Amanda Aguirre represents Yuma County in the Arizona House of Representatives. Aguirre, M.A, R.D. also serves as Executive Director of the Western Arizona Area Health Education Center, Inc., a non-profit organization. In January 2000, she was appointed by President Clinton to the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission. Aguirre also is President of the Rio Colorado Commission, a commission established in Yuma County to promote economic development.

“John Kerry knows how to create jobs. Of all the candidates, including George W. Bush, he is most capable of restoring our faltering manufacturing sector,” said State House Rep. Ernest Bustamante. “I switched because John Kerry has the most concrete, forward-looking approach to bring jobs back to Arizona. As a union leader, I believe he also has the strongest record in protecting workers’ right to unionize.”

Ernest Bustamante represents Pinal County in the Arizona House of Representatives and is currently serving his first term. Bustamante is a member of the Steel Workers Union Local 886. Previously, he served as a councilman for the town of Mammoth. He was raised in the Hayden, Winkelman area, which is part of his district.

“I am very grateful for the support of Amanda Aguirre and Ernie Bustamante. They are persuasive leaders of our party,” said John Kerry. “As a health care advocate, Amanda has been a powerful advocate for the uninsured, especially in Western Arizona. Ernie has fought to spur investment and to defend the rights of union members. I'm proud to have both of them on my team as we put our nation back to work.”

The endorsements come after Arizona House Rep. Ben Miranda of South Phoenix switched his support to John Kerry in late September.

1. I do congradulate Kerry
but I would be appalled at these people if I were in their districts. I don't know which is worse, the idea that they evidently had no clue what Kerry stood for, or the fact they ditched their candidate like a hot potato. How can these people be trusted?

2. Lieberman is running further to the right than he did with Gore in 2000.
Many knew him in that context and had no idea he would shift right to the extent that he has.

4. Lieberman certainly hasn't covered himself in glory with his campaign
but his only real right wing position has been on the war, and one can not argue he hasn't been clear on that. They were pretty well warned on that.

Even though his record shows a more liberal bent.

3. maybe they threw out the bad theory, i.e. Teh Lieb
lieberman ~was~ the veep pick for 2000... maybe they initially supported him out of loyalty, but after seeing kerry in the debates realized that lieberman can't stand on his own, or give a clear, positive message. a lot of people change their minds after seeing the candidates in debates; i know many who became kerry supporters when they saw how he handled the questions and was compared in real time to other candidates. he did a great job getting his points across.

Where is the falsehood? WHERE? WHERE? WHERE? You sent me a private message whining about me "telling dispicable lies" about you.

Where did I say the words, "YOUR POST WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT."

I merely wondered if it would. There is a big difference there pal. Get over yourself.

If you don't think its good for officials to endorse people that's your problem. I trust if Dean gets a good endorsement from a "pulbic official" you will be the first (or 2nd) poster in there questioning the integrity of those who endorse Dean. <<Patiently waiting to see if you will interpret this statement as a lie.

I get so goddamn sick of reading good-quality information about Kerry only to see it ransacked by these ******* Dean people.

6. Lieberman supporters
please explain his strategy?

He's pulled out of Iowa, he's almost losing to Kucinich in New Hampshire, coming in fifth, he's dropped down to fourth/third in Arizona
way behind Dean, he's forth in the national polls, and he's fourth
in South Carolina, almost fifth.

No offense or anything, but where is he going to show strength
before Super Tuesday comes around and everything gets locked up?
As it's looking now, either Gephardt, Edwards, or Clark is going
to grab his spot as the anti-Dean.

8. For Better Or Worse, I Think Grandpa Joe's People
Will go to Kerry. Perhaps to Gep, but I think that Grandpa Joe also had a pretty good environmental record (something tough to have when you are constantly courting labor).

Personally, I say welcome aboard. Although Kerry is farther left than Dean, I think here is a crystal clear example of an alienated wing of the Party (i.e. the Republican wing).

I suppose cockroaches of a feather flock together.

20. If you say so

Way to add so much to the discussion and successfully turning anything positive about John Kerry into mush; of course, that is the entire agenda.

Dean people remind me so much of dittoheads. They simply can't stomach someone, anyone espousing beliefs in another man/vision than their deity.

24. Just keep saying it

Find me a single Kerry poster bashing Dean?

I have already posted on 3 other Kerry threads in response to Dean people bashing Kerry.

I also posted in the Dean thread (where he gets union back) that NO ONE had been in there to bash him.

Go to the Dean thread...check it out. No one at all is bashing him. Go to the Kerry threads (this one and one about his war position) and the very first response is a Dean supporter to interject his/her "wisdom."

You come off with so much confidence that Kerry people are lying in wait to bash Dean...And the Dean people are just so innocent never interjecting any vector into the dialog. Keep telling yourself that OVER and OVER and OVER...ignore the facts, the posts, the threads, the evidence...Just say...what you WANT TO BELIEVE...and everything will be fine.

Find one single post here where a Kerry person bashes Dean. It doesn't exist. You people just make shit up as you go along. Dean loves guns...I love guns. Dean supports gun control we have....I support gun control we have. Dean against death penalty...I’m against it. Dean in favor of it under certain situations...Hell, I am too. It's a big distorted record where the needle just keeps skipping over and over.

Here is my one bash: I don't think Dean people are the swiftest group on the Democratic team to be quite honest.

I have 2 from Dean people.

Dean people didn't make all their rounds. Otherwise, these are the threads the Dean people seem to leave alone...the "human interest stuff."

Find a thread where someone is saying how great Kerry is about something or the positives in his polling, etc. where Dean people aren't bashing then we can talk.

Otherwise, I found 4 threads they bashed and still no Dean threads where Kerry people bashed Dean.

We freaking need each other. My disgust for Deans people has been their treatment of Kerry, but I won't be any parts in defending those JK folks who go after Dean.

Policy Discussions are fair game. I don't like some of Deans positions and I don't trust him on the environment (although he has been coming around on that for me lately)...

It seems the minute I start to like Dean a little, his fan club goes bananas.

41. Huh

Ok they called Dean NRA powered. Is that not accurate?

I didn't like it when Dean was called a HO, it could have been a serious discussion about Deans environment record. That's what I want to get into. Discussing his issues, ideas, what he'd do as President.

The long post by Jeff002 was legit critique of Dean's policies. I'd like to see how that thread would have evolved if it didn't peter out.

Still, the defense of Dean (the link) was rather lame in my view.

45. Yes, that is not accurate.
Dean gets an "A" rating from the NRA not because they are behind him but because he poses no threat to their organization. The NRA will line up behind Chimp, not Dean. It's one of the most rediculous allegations out there. It's just as rediculous as saying that Kerry is IWR-powered, and therefore supported by warmongers.
