A question for King County (WA) politicos
All right so KC Executive Sims is running for Governor and has to be the favorite right now. I know that his current seat only becomes vacant durring odd years, so if he wins, he'll have to give it up. Now my question is what happens then? What's the process for picking his replacement, and who would be a possible person to fill his shoes?

1. I'm not sure you are right.
Ron Sims has made himself a lot of enemies over the last couple of years and as grating as Christine Gregoire can be, I think folks think she's a can-do person. She also has the benefit of statewide contacts and name recognition. I think she's going to be hard to beat.

And sorry, I don't know who would assign a replacement, but since its a democratic seat, I would assume that whoever is responsible would sort of have to replace him with a democrat. Boy, that's a lucid answer, isn't it?

2. Phil Talmadge

he's my guy...

but to answer your question, I'm not as up on the local politics as I should be, but isn't he elected and if he leaves office the Governor gets to pick his replacement and he wins, he gets to pick his replacement. I don't know if this is true, but it if it is true, it's interesting.

5. Well I was only asking because
I'm a PCO and a few years back we were called on to replace one of the state reps who had been elected to a different office. I was thinking that if replacing the county electeds works the same as replacing the state ones I should know who might be angling for that job, because the potential state reps called me and I didn't know who anyone was.

I realize it's still early on and I didn't mean to disparage Talmadge or Gregoire. Frankly I haven't made up my mind yet.

4. I doubt that Sims is the favorite
I actually suspect Gregoire will win the primaries in a walk. if Sims wins, he may be replaced by the president of the county council though, although I am not sure about this.
