Took off on Stanley Kurtz of NRO
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 10:04 PM by mesquite
today.

He had this "what this election is all about - the doves vs hawks - drivel column today.

I couldn't help but respond with...

"Mr Kurtz,

The answer to your question, posed in “The Dangerous Secret,” is obviously something close to number 1.

“Knowing President Bush has no positive achievements to run on, and desperate to prevent revelations under a Kerry presidency of the cooked intelligence and profiteering behind the disastrous Iraq war, the Republican attack machine has orchestrated a professional hit job on John Kerry's character and military record. The story of Kerry's wartime heroism puts the Vietnam-era cowardice of the president and vice president to shame. In doing so, the Kerry story exposes Bush's sham connection between "tough" foreign policy and patriotism. So to win the election, there was no choice for Bush but to destroy Kerry's reputation — by any means necessary.”

Your further discussion puts forth a false choice: dove vs hawk. Which will the people opt for?

This dove vs hawk schtick is not going to be the deciding factor. The choice we will make 11/2 is between: John Kerry, a mature man possessed of intellect, true integrity, demonstrated willingness to sacrifice for others and for the truth, as well as long demonstrated abilities to penetrate to the core of complex issues and provide common sense approaches to resolving those issues and; George W Bush, a shallow, swaggering, smirking, perpetual adolescent with an uninhibited mean streak a mile wide, who has yet to understand that he has let his administration, his party and his country be hi-jacked by a small band of radicals who obviously have no common sense whatsoever. I.E he has been flipped-flopped by his own appointees. After all HE was the one who ran in 2000 on a platform of a “humble” “non-arrogant” “international cooperation” foreign policy. Cheney obviously overruled that agenda immediately upon taking office and it has been down-hill in the proverbial hand basket for the country ever since.

Our country, being led by the radical ideologues Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowicz, Feith etal is definitely on the wrong track. Their “the hell with the other 6 billion people on earth” foreign policies, as well as their wanton, fiscally profligate, “who gives a damn about deficits and debt” and “who gives a damn about corruption as long as Halliburton makes some dough,” "we love the military industrial complex" policies will lead to decades of limited opportunity and reduced liberties for our country’s younger generations.

George W Bush doesn’t have the cognitive ability to realize the immense damage to our country that he has allowed to occur, nor the common sense or character to take the “buck-stopping” personal responsibility and fire the radical ideologues, so the people are going to do that job for him.

Once again, others are coming to the rescue of GW Bush, whose long pattern of utter failures and corrupt practices are the defining characteristics of his entire, irresponsibly spent, life. Only this time, he’s going down with the rest of them, because we are going to rescue the future of the country from decades of gross embarrassment, deprivation, misery and suffering that his radical cohorts and criminal cronies have steered us toward. Americans do not want numero uno mega-hawk Dick Cheney’s entirely unnecessary, stupendously expensive in life and resources, “century of war,” Mr. mega-hawk Kurtz. George W Bush is going to get what he has long deserved, he’s going to, at long last, be held accountable and he’s going to get fired.

We will have reason to be proud and hopeful again, as Americans. We will be able to hold our heads up before the other 6 billion people on earth. We will restore reason for others to welcome American citizens all over the globe. We will once again exemplify our founding ideals before the world and restore our course to one of truly moral leadership. We will set our sights on averting the calamitous fiscal disaster the radical, mean spirited, greedy supply siders have set in place to spring over the next few decades, as we pay long overdue attention to the demand siders and make sure they will still have enough money in their pockets to care for their own, live in dignity in sickness and old age, and keep the economic engine going!

And we will restore our inalienable civil liberties, for us and our posterity, when John Kerry is inaugurated.

Regards,

1. Beautiful letter!
Well-said!

One small spelling error, however, here: We will set our sites on averting the calamitous fiscal disaster... The correct word is sights.

All in all, an excellent letter. Good for you!
