I heard this guy on NPR a few weeks ago and was very impressed. In fact, he is the
only conservative strategist that I consider very smart and objective.
If bushco had a dozen of these guys, they wouldn't be nailing their toes to the floor like they have with the negative convention and the disaster with Zell Miller.
I hadn't even heard of this guy until the NPR interview but in fact he is a big deal in the conservative world. He pioneered the use of direct mail to get conservatives together and organize them as a powerful political force.
I hope he discusses what the right is good at (direct mail, letters to the editor) and what the left is good at (films like F9/11, telling a story that appeals to the emotions). I found this to be particularly insightful when I heard the interview on NPR.
Here's info from the CSpan Web site:
Viguerie, Richard A., Chairman, United Conservatives of America
America's Right Turn
Mr. Viguerie talks about his book America's Right Turn: How Conservatives Used New and Alternative Media to Take Power, published by Bonus Books.
If you can't watch it, try to tape it. If it's anything like the NPR interview, it will be fascinating and give you an idea of how the right organized.
